That was an interesting comment by Kitty about it being Tom's birthday, which indicates the show was taped on October 17 and broadcast five days later.

What a great episode! That George Tweed was such a handsome, smiley fella. It wasn't obvious that he had endured so much. The Indians were lovely and believable. I guessed #1 just from how she stated her name. The third one was fun and somehow I guessed that one too. The panel made such silly comments in the third round. Kind of embarrassing. They weren't funny.

The last Miss Indian America contest was held in 1984. Also, at the time this episode was broadcast native American ancestry was something many folks preferred not to mention or let it be known.

Here is some contemporary newsreel footage about George Tweed and his rescue, etc. However, please be warned that it contains racist language, as did almost all WWII-era newsreels about the Japanese. But the same was true, to a lesser extent, about the (of course, white) Germans, though. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHK4ZYSZi6plm8k
