The group's name is Toto (it's the same name as the dog in the movie from the Wizard of Oz). This same group worked on Michael Jackson's albums. They also worked on a lot of other artists albums and the group is still touring today with a lot of Generation Z fans starting from the ages of 18, 19, 20 year olds, they attend their concerts, and their concerts are sold out. Africa is the biggest song the concert audiences love to hear. Toto goes back to the 70's.

My dad played this a lot on road trips when I was a little girl. Wind in our hair just jamming out, makes me happy and sad at the same time. Happy because it's a memory I hold dear in my heart when I hear this song, sad because sometimes you just want to go back to those moments.

I'm 56 years old, so I've been listening to music for a while now. Honestly, I think that this is my favorite song of all time. I don't know why I love it so much. It just sounds so dang cool. The music along with the harmony of the voices gives me chills to this day, at a point in my life when I don't get near as many "chills" as I used to. Something about this song makes me feel adventurous and brave.

This song followed a dream he had about Africa. It is a band of guys who are studio musicians (some of the best anywhere) who just created a group one day. They are Steve Lukather (guitar), Jeff Porcaro(one of the best drummers ever who sadly died in 1992), Steve Porcaro (keyboards), David Paich (keyboards), Bobby Kimball (Vocals, keyboards). The band still plays today more than 40 years later.

Hi Quay. The name is pronounced like toe toe. The guys in this band had all played on studio recordings and even some tours for a whole bunch of different bands and singers back in the day. They decided to pool their talents together and form a band. To identify their demo tapes from the other bands in the studio they used to mark theirs TOTO. They used to tell people that it was named for the dog in the wizard of Oz. Truth came out later that it came from a Latin phrase in toto meaning all inclusive or all encompassing. Because they covered so much musical ground between them. Had a bunch of hits and even won some grammys. One of the guys wrote a song on the Michael Jackson Thriller album and he and another one of the guys in the band played on a couple songs on that album. You just keep being you sweetie and the money will get there. Stay safe and well.

There's a theory around the net that this song is about a guy who is a werewolf ("this thing that I've become") and he's looking in those ancient books to find a cure before visiting his girlfriend in Africa. Say what?! It is more likely he just wants to see her; he's reading up on the country. It's a beautiful-sounding song. Toto's members were previously all high-class session guys who harmonized great together and got that big tight guitars sound. Agree about the flutey keyboards solo--clever in a happy way.
