If that same team stayed together (completely) - injuries aside - we would have remained competitive. Injuries played a part in the following season though - and we were poor as a consequence.

If we stayed injury free, we had a good side capable of beating anyone on the day. Once we got a few injuries we were always in trouble and we would lose our way

I believe he did his calf pre-game, but the problem was United didn’t have a sub goalkeeper on the bench. He was sat in the crowd, but somehow United convinced Tottenham and the officials that Scholes, one of the subs was ill, and could they switch Pilkington to be the sub.
