Great song and really great lesson. There are a number of tutorials for this song around here but yours is way above the rest in my opinion because of how you draw attention to the picking pattern and break it down for us, and the work of the right hand more generally (including the "looseness"). Thank you so much for opening up this song for me, I can't tell you how happy I am to finally be able to work on it.

Sylvain, comments like this are the reason that I create video lessons - thank you so much. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your kind words. How would you honestly feel about me using your comment as a testimonial and sharing maybe on my social media pages? I can hide your name if you'd like but I'd love to share it but only with your permission. Thanks again, loads more lessons to follow!

@@Learnguitarwithcharlie You're welcome Charlie! Just conveying my sincere appreciation of the care you put into this and what you make available to us! Do feel free to use the comment including my name (and thanks for asking, I also appreciate that!). Just started to look into your channel so a lot to catch up for me, but I second the request for more stuff from the Black Crowes, Rich Robinson I think is very underrated as a composer and unique as a stylist in open G, and when he hits the mark we truly have "gems" as you wrote for this song. I think your lesson also conveys that really well. Keep up the good work! and thanks again the enjoyment I get from finally learning to play this song.

@@darwish1974 Thanks so much Sylvain. That's great - really appreciate you being cool with sharing your comment too! A few people have requested more crowes so I'll get on it, absolutely love the band - some amazing songs. It's a pleasure, thanks again for your kind words.

Charlie thank you so much for the fine job of explaining this amazing song. It's clear and precise. Well done. I'm no singer and wouldn't dare try on this one. But I would love to hear how you would play this through to make it pleasant to the listener without vocals. Your intro gives the idea but I would like to hear how you would sit down and just play this through for yourself. I'm really happy I discovered your channel and look forward to working with you in the future

Clyde, this so kind thank you. Comments like this are really what this is all about, it makes it all worthwhile. Thank you, maybe that's a plan for a future video but I'd have to probably watch my own video to teach myself it again! Good point though, thank you - I'll add it is an idea to the list. Thanks again for your kind words!

What key is the hamonica?
@Learnguitarwithcharlie Жыл бұрын
Go for a blues harp in the key of A mate. Thorn in my pride is in the key of E (concert) so an A Harp should be right.

Would say this is good song for beginners or intermediates?
@Learnguitarwithcharlie Жыл бұрын
Hi Nic, this is probably more of an intermediate level song to be honest. It has some tricky parts to it and it wouldn't be suited to a beginner.

@@Learnguitarwithcharliewhat is the song structure? Does it go verse, chorus, verse 2, chorus, bridge, guitar solo, bridge, and outro?

When you get to the verse, and I may be wrong but what I'm hearins is hammer on the the second fret open A, slide to the third fret. play the fourth fret, then go to the open D and continue the descending phrase. IDK. I'm hearing a hammer on and then a slide on the A
@Learnguitarwithcharlie4 жыл бұрын
Hi Charles, you may well be right mate! I'd imagine that he probably varies it slightly each time he plays it anyway so it could be a culmination of various parts and pull-offs. I'd go with what feels comfortable personally - I tend to pick all 3 notes across the 5th string in the verse anyway. I tend to adapt things a little bit and encourage students to do that too, where suitable. Cheers
