In a way, the Clans were doing what Kerensky wanted, reuniting the Inner Sphere by being the big bad enemy that the nations of the Inner Sphere have to team up against to stand a chance of not being conquered by them which could possibly have led them to form a long term alliance setup to keep the Clans at bay.

But ive also taken a Mad Cat against a Griffin and gotten badly mauled because none of my damage was ever going into the same spot twice - eventually it was a head hit that knocked the pilot out. its all in how you roll, as you said.

Actually there based on a board game called "battletech" this series came out after mechwarrior 2 was released. And if you want to be technical "battletech 1st edition" or "battledroids" was a board game based on "robotech the macross saga" which was based on the "Macross" anime.

Actually Harmony Gold (the owner of Robotech) sued FASA (owner of Battletech at the time of the series.), Harmony Gold won and as a result they had to remove a few of the Mechs from the series. The Wasp and Warhammer (I believe were the two) were removed from Battletech after the lawsuit when the owner decided it was a bad idea to make stuff that they did not own the international copyright to. depends on the condition of the AS7 before the head hit, seeing as the base armor is only 9pts, and a AC2 does 2pts, it is unlikely that it did get through the armor without the, now near, standard use of the floating critical rule. And even then its still long odds. But can and has happened.

It always struck me as odd that the Clans all seemed to think during the initial invasion that the IS knew what the hell a batchall was or even zellbrigen. Did none of their superiors even think to inform their soldiers the IS didn't have a ritualized formula for fighting wars?

@Sulaco100117 жыл бұрын
Well play the boardgame. Sometimes you shoot the hell out of a mech, but it all depends how you roll. You could hit a mech all over without hitting a critical. Then again, I have had the priviledge using a Wasp to take out a Marauder. It all depends on the dice roll. LOL

@Gallowell And I'm pretty sure that the Clans went out of their way to maintain personal honor. Sure they sometime didn't extend it to attempting to beat the crap out of Freeborns, but yeah otherwise they went of their way to maintain personal honor with the concept of the Circle of Equals. And no not all Clans were as close-minded about freeborns. That's mostly just the Crusader clans.

@CrizzyEyes10 жыл бұрын
I know this guy's comment is old but maybe this will clear up some confusion for someone else who happens across this and didn't play any CBT (Classic Battletech). "How does a mauler die by getting knocked down and losing one of it's missile racks??? From my experience in MW4 Mercs, I can knock a mauler down in my storm rhino (custom) but it doesn't just die. That rail gun packs a punch but so far I've seen no one hit kills like that. Also, who the crap sends wolfhounds against an assault and tons of mad dogs and timberwolves? It's quite the suicide ain't it?" Your experience in Mechwarrior 4 doesn't translate at all. In Classic Battletech, there are two typical and efficient ways to kill an Assault-class 'Mech, often used together. The first is to force the pilot to roll his Piloting skill, by causing 20 damage or more in a single turn. If he fails the roll, his 'Mech gets knocked down. This does a few things. First, he takes a lot of damage to his armor from falling down. Next, the pilot (not the 'Mech) takes damage and has to make a roll to stay conscious, which becomes more difficult depending on how much damage the pilot has taken. Finally, the 'Mech is flat on the ground -- which means that all hits against it are an automatic success, AND the pilot has to make a roll just to stand up again. After the 'Mech is floored, you can target unarmored ammunition deposits or the cockpit at your leisure. Which brings me to the second method -- ammo explosions. Mechwarrior 4 (and indeed no Mechwarrior game until the recent MWO) does not feature ammo explosions, even though it's an extremely important part of Battletech. MW4 has simplified 'Mech customization, but in games like MW2 and MWO, the 'Mech customization is more-or-less an exact adaptation of CBT. These games allow you to choose where on your 'Mech everything is positioned; heat sinks, ammunition, AMS, Guardian ECM modules, BAP modules, etc. The only restrictions are that weapons can only be mounted on noted hardpoint positions, and your engine has to be in the center torso. If a location has its armor stripped, that location is then vulnerable to critical hits. A critical hit means that the components you mounted on that location will be damaged, chosen randomly. If you score a critical hit on stored ammunition, well... I think you can figure out what happens. Fortunately, CASE modules prevent ammo explosions from destroying your entire 'Mech at once... just most of it. So you see, knocking down a Mauler and aiming for the missile racks is actually THE TEXTBOOK WAY to kill an Assault-class 'Mech. To answer your other question about "who sends light 'Mechs to deal with assaults," the funny thing about that is in CBT (and in MWO) it's extremely hard to hit light 'Mechs, because you receive massive modifiers to-hit based on how far a 'Mech moves in a turn. Light 'Mechs move the farthest, so they are the hardest to-hit. To give you some perspective on how much this matters, you roll two dice at once, and then add the numbers together to see if you hit someone. The target number to hit an Atlas is 4. The target number to hit a Locust is 11. Yeah. Combine that with the fact that changing your facing costs MOVEMENT, and, well, you end up with an Atlas that can't get those god-damn bugs off its back. Also, if Adam would stop being a damn idiot and answer Nikolai's batchall, he wouldn't have to deal with all of the Jade Falcon forces at once...

That said, I'm amazed nobody's complained that the "enhanced imaging" sequences show the topography with a linear grid instead of a hex grid, I figure that would be the first complaint from battletech die-hard fans...

"Bachall" when opponents bid their forces, reducing their units to the minimum amount they think to win the battle. In Clan lore, the warriors who bid the lowest and win gain the greater glory.
@CrizzyEyes10 жыл бұрын
"Batchall," and it goes even further than that. In the 1st episode, Nikolai contacted Adam Steiner with his batchall. He expected Adam to tell him exactly the makeup of his forces on Somerset. In return, Nikolai would then tell him the makeup of his forces. It's actually in the Inner Sphere defender's best interest to tell them how many forces they have (or lie about it, which the Clans quickly got wise to) since the Clan commander will then choose an attacking force that will make it a fair fight, or even give the defender an advantage. At the end of a batchall, both commanders traditionally say "well bargained and done," like Kristen Redmond did in episode 2. Afterwards, the Clan commander's subordinates bicker and fight over the right to be in the commander's limited attacking forces. This show is bizarrely incredibly lore-accurate a lot of the time, but misses a few small bits occasionally -- like Kristen's Mad Dog not having any missiles for some reason, and the Clan 'Mechs having superior armor.
