any idea why focus touch tracking turns off seemingly randomly sometimes? it happened several times to me. i dont tend to change my camera settings much so never figured out why it turns off. anyway, i set it as a menu custom button now just in case it happens again i can quickly turn it back on without having to get out a japanese dictionary to read my camera screen. thanks

If you sometimes click on the back buttons or the center button in the back it can get deactivated. The camera thinks that you don’t want to track anymore

My A7 IV doesn’t have the Touch Pad Sensitivity setting. Did you use the A7S III for the menu shown in this video? Super helpful-compact video by the way 🙌

A7c real-time tracking touch works just as well as on a6600 and a7iv or a7siii?

Sony have been improving their AF system over time and with each new camera. A7C received a good upgrade some time ago, but that camera hopefully soon will get a new version,. A7iV and A7R5 has the latest AF algorithms. However I have never encountered any issues with tracking with my A7C

Thanks! It was totally confusing I couldn't find a touchpad on the whole thing. That makes sense. It's through the viewfinder and then you use the touch screen as a touchpad.

Thanks for the video but i have a question. I have the a7s iii. When i use the spot option on the touch pad, I saw in your a7s ii video a box appeared similar to the touch to track. This allowed me to see exactly where the focus was in your video. On my camera when i use to spot tracking not only does it not give me the box, so i know the area i last touched, but when that spot is active it takes the shooting mode from AF-C to M. I have no idea why auto focus gets turned off on top of the box not showing up. Do you have any idea? I msut be missing something. Thanks in advance.

OK, I think I figured that out. It was confusing. Exactly when and why does camera switch to manual focus? Actually, that IS a potentially GOOD function, to turn ON / OFF manual focus from the LCD panel. So, OK, here's what I found: It depends on WHICH Focus Area you are set to: In the first 3 settings - Wide, Zone, and Center Fix - In THOSE 3 settings, yes, touching an area on LCD screen wick change you to MANUAL Focus now ignoring whatever Focus Area setting you may have made. ALSO: It appears that it sets a Focus distance, but does not "attach" itself to that object, i.e., it will maintain focus to THAT distance. (Still with me?) Now, change Focus Area to Spot (S/M/or L) or to Expand Spot. NOW, when you touch LCD screen, it moves Focus box to where you touched screen. It does NOT now change to manual focus; it remains auto-focus, staying within the box you have just moved. (phew) So, to sum up: In Focus Area settings Wide, Zone, and Center Fix, touching LCD screen changes focus area to that focus distance you just touched (AND eliminates the focus box) AND changes focus mode to MANUAL. In the 2 remaining Focus Area settings, Spot (S/M/or L) and Expand Spot, touching LCD screen moves the Spot or Expand Spot to where you touched screen, but does NOT change to manual focus, but rather remains in Auto Focus. BONUS: Check out your LCD screen as you use focusing modes. You'll see the icon indicating "Touch Screen Focus" mode (with a small hand/finger.) Depending on how many times you press that icon on the screen, this will either Turn Off / On touch focusing, OR Turn On TRACKING feature. This is cool because it gives you the ability to quickly turn On / Off TRACKING without having to dive into the menu. (But it too can get confusing - sometimes you DON'T want tracking. You have to remember to turn off this function by touching the icon, so that you are no longer in tracking mode. If you just cancel tracking mode by pressing the button on the CONTROL wheel or the JOYSTICK, you will re-activate tracking mode when you touch the LCD screen. Cancel tracking by touching LCD screen icon instead, and you will go back to having that ability to switch to MANUAL focus. (Forgive me for going on at such length, but I had same question as you, and going through all these settings is helping me tremendously.) In FINAL sum: Yes, you can access MANUAL focus from the LCD screen (as opposed to going into menu or Fn button). AND you can access TRACKING feature, from the LCD screen. Last note here: Yes, maybe you can assign both MANUAL Focus Mode and Tracking Mode to a quick select function button. I haven't gotten that far yet. But, nevertheless, having access on the LCD panel could be useful, too. (OK, I'm done!)
