Their originals are so under appreciated. Especially, some of those with no video (Anchor, Light In The Hallway…..so many) It took me so many times watching this before I realized it was the same room every time, just with different accessories 😂

kevin is INSANE with the rhythm on this one!!! You will LOVE them live. The incredible harmonics they are able to create for their harmonies when they blend create a crazy full wall of sound sound. mitch simply has one of the most natural beautiful voices out there..Kevin KILLS it. I thnk one thing gets overlooked, Kirstie fills the entire middle of the sound for this song. Loved that, both versions.

Kevin's beatboxing in this song just blows my mind! I can't even imagine how he makes those sounds that fast! Your comment on the official video about "how full the voices sound" - this song came off The Lucky Ones album, where they did a lot more experimentation with using vocal processing, synthesizers, and adding vocal tracks to songs. So it's quite possible that they had multiple vocal tracks on the song - I don't know/remember for sure. I'm pretty sure the beginning of the song, with the very short, staccato notes were processed to sound even more like a synthesizer.

That room was also one of the settings for Super Fruit's video for their song "Deny U". Scott and Mitch wrote "Coffee in Bed", along with Koma & Book, who produced "The Lucky Ones" album this came from. The Late Show appearance was early 2021. As with their other talk show "live" appearances, they DID record it live but the videographer did multiple video takes. You can tell it's a live recording because they have mics and earpieces, Scott is doing more riffs than on the studio version, and here and there it doesn't sound as full as the studio version, which might have had some layering and definitely vocal processing.

I love this one so much!! Scott and Mitch are so good taking the lead together ♥️ Another original that I highly recommend is Be My Eyes!!! It’s on this same album. Kirstie was the main writer and sings the “lead”. But Mitch is awesome support in it and of course they all do amazing with the support. Love your reactions!! ❤🙌🏻

Thank you for checking this out! I think this is a masterful arrangement that should have had viral airplay. Many of their originals could have had commercial success on the regular pop charts if given the opportunity, but acapella still has a stigma as a niche product when it comes to marketing music. Can you imagine jamming out in the car when this comes on the radio? I sure can. This one is both catchy and intricate. They make such specific choices at every moment that serve the song, and both highlight and balance their talents beautfiully. Even Kirstie, who didn't have any solo moments in this one, was absolutely integral to the balance of the sound. Pentatonix is only Pentatonix when all five people are present. Wonderful reaction!

I'm always Amazed and thrilled that Mitch has taken his voice (he was teased through school) and now he's making a living with his voice. Mitch did help write the song, but it was inspired when Mark brought Coffee in bed to Scott. It was the first time someone did something for Scott since he is usually the one that takes the lead.

I had to leave another comment after you both mentioned that Mitch has perfect pitch… when they were first making it big early in their career and they would get asked in interviews if they ever got off pitch and if so what do they do… that all would say of course but it they ever loose the pitch they listen to Mitch because he has perfect pitch ❤😂🎉
@hernameispekka_Rebecca Жыл бұрын
I think Kevin is the only one who has actual perfect pitch, as in the genetic quirk. Mitch and Kirstin from what they say have very very good relative pitch though, and Mitch is very good at saying on pitch as you said!
@vmcgriff Жыл бұрын
@@hernameispekka_Rebecca I agree! Kevin has perfect pitch, but he is not usually singing so it would be hard to use him for pitch correction. And let’s be honest they are all great singers and have good pitch! I just remember in the early interviews they would say they would all point to Mitch for the best at staying on pitch. ♥️

Regarding Kevin's beatboxing in general (as opposed to in this video specifically), he's mentioned that he has an advantage. They all go to great lengths to keep themselves hydrated, i.e. they drink a LOT of water. And Kevin mentioned that when he finds himself needing to burp in the middle of a song he simply finds a way to incorporate it into the beatboxing. (So creative.) And Kirstin just looks at him enviously and comments darkly that you can't do that when you're singing.
@TouchyReactions Жыл бұрын
That's funny
@margretrosenberg420 Жыл бұрын
@@TouchyReactions I thought so. Kevin thinks Mitch is the funniest person he's ever met; I think maybe he wasn't thinking of himself as a person he's met. BTW, there's a whole video of Kevin laughing at Mitch. Actually, they're all pretty funny when they want to be (and sometimes when they don't). Have you seen the video of Kirstin informing Kevin of her engagement by directing his attention to her ring? She had Elliana in her arms, so Kevin thought she'd brought Elliana to visit, and when he finally notices the ring he's so startled that he suddenly steps back and trips and falls. Apparently he wasn't hurt, because he immediately tried to turn it into Uncle Kevin clowning around for Elliana, apparently so that she wouldn't worry about Uncle Kevin. She's about 10 months old now, and all of Pentatonix clearly dotes on her.

I believe Scott (and Mitch) wrote this one, mostly about Scott’s fiancé Mark. It sounds very similar in tone to their Superfruit (Scott and Mitch’s former side gig) albums so I can totally see their influence on it.

Well constructed and executed reaction. If you want an excellent Pentatonix live performance, watch their Popspring 2016 concert which has three (excellent) originals and their Evolution Of Michael Jackson. Another great one is Hallelujah in the Christmas Special 2016. The recording quality in both is brilliant. The most loved live performance is Aha! It was recorded on a fan's phone so the audio quality is not the best, but Avi's and especially Mitch's performance are showstoppers. Mitch and Red Bull (countering jet lag) are interesting together. Probably best to watch the Aha! Official video first. It's totally different but is fun and the lyrics are easier to follow, so you get a better feel for the song itself.

Regarding Mitch, they all say that any time they find that they're uncertain of what notes they're supposed to be singing in a live performance (because everybody can lose their place occasionally) they just listen for Mitch, and take their note from what he's singing. Also, Kirstin and Scott have both said that every once in a while, during a live performance they'll suddenly notice that they aren't singing when they should be. It's always caused by the fact that they were listening so intently to the beauty of Mitch's singing that they stopped singing because they wanted to hear him better.

@@TouchyReactions Everything about them is. I THINK, based on a recent video Mitch has made about success and happiness, that Mitch is finally beginning to believe what Scott and Kirstin say about his voice. He was so traumatized by that early bullying that he's had serious doubts, and even though he trusts Kirstin and Scott musically, they're also his best friends, so he could easily convince himself that they might be lying to save him from pain. Sigh. That's been a difficult situation for all of them.

There ARE male altos and sopranos (and female tenors and basses), going back at least as far as the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Women rarely performed in public and men (often castrated and specially trained when young) would sing the female roles. Also, women in convents would often have extensive musical training and since men were not allowed in the convent some women with naturally deep voices would train to sing the bass parts. If you are interested I can send you links for 21st-century performances of that music.

Listening closely, I'm pretty sure they have added a track of themselves adding background color in the song. You commented how "full" it sounds for 5 voices (4 plus beatboxer, actually) and you're right. It's TOO full. The idea of adding depth with a recorded track doesn't bother me -- after all, it's still THEM doing all the singing. To me it's no different that Kevin using a looper to create a whole song by himself.
