We in Washington state have newer de-escalation mandates that say we must de-escalate people and have a great deal of patience with people like this before using physical force. Based on my lifetime of experience dealing with people, acting tough in all situations like this stems from severe overcompensation for feelings of powerlessness. They feel weak no matter how physically strong they are, but they act tough so other people won't notice how weak they feel. Most likely grew up taking severe abuse from a parent, and still feels like he has no control over his life. He just talked about not wanting to fight in prison, clearly he's not confident in himself, he's terrified of everything and everyone. He talks about "being hard" but he's fragile on the inside. And I'm not trying to slag on him, it is what it is. I just like seeing how people got to where they are, I don't judge people, just analyse them.
