i get that ive been playing way too much HSiFS but i thought reimu was doing a season release in the thumbnail

Thank you so much for the work guys ! I prefer some of the unused tracks over the original one ! I'm so happy ! (Love the 98 era !)

I can agree! Some of the unused tracks even ZUN's comments of them indicated his enjoyment of the compositions, but he threw them out since it didn't go for a tone he wanted in his stages or bosses; nevertheless, being unused didn't limit their charm at all I feel. ^^

It's true. That's what he felt, but when I to incomplete plot, for exemple, the song fit well the stage. The music begin to be more "active" when the "danmaku dodge time" happens. Even dreamy pilot . . . at 11:38 when the midboss arrive, wasn't it epic ? It's like ZUN didn't trust himself at that time. ^^ IMO, Incomplet Plot fits more the stage 5 than the actual song because we're about to meet the sleeping terror into a dream world we don't even know. Incomplete Plot is kind of mysterious and agressive, it fits Yuuka pretty well if you ask me.

Well that's how ZUN composed his music: it was to befit the stage it played on, so of course I would imagine it would kick up at the right time with midbosses, which indeed makes it feel welcome right in. ^^ What I meant by 'tone' is what ZUN's comments say his reasoning for why he left those specific themes unused (i.e. with Magic Shop of Raspberry needing to be "a little lighter" and such), but I'm dang glad ZUN left them for us to hear, and especially now that we get the best of both worlds with the upcoming unused music patch that this video was created for!

DeityDiz1080 I wonder if Zun would have a change of mind today. If he were to make LLS now, would he use the unused tracks instead of the one he put at the time ? That's a question we'll probably never have any answers.

Would it be possible to dedicate the unused tracks to Marisa, when you play as her and that Reimu gets the original tracks? That seems like something I would do (although I don't know what to do with the Stage 1 theme :P). Or do you guys have other plans for that?

A few months ago, I thought about including the unused versions of Decoration Battle and Inanimate Dream for Marisa, while keeping the in-game versions of these themes for Reimu (as it's possible to have different music, but for boss themes only), but now I think it would be better if we keep all the unused music for the bonus patch. By the way, the idea of using Fly Above Hatoyama at Night as an alternative theme for Marisa's stage 1 came very spontaneously. Initially, I wanted to just add it as a little bonus in MS music room, but when I finished recording Reimu 1CC and cleared the Extra stage with Marisa (a quick run through Marisa stage 1 was actually edited in later), I thought that another unused theme should be used for Marisa's stage 1. However, since there are no more unused themes left, it came to me - Marisa's stage 1 setting is mountain at night, and also, stage 1 from Shuusou Gyoku always reminded me of stage 1 from Lotus Land Story, so i thought that Fly Above Hatoyama at Night should be the perfect choice. (^^;

Ah! Ok. Yeah, I figured there would be some limitation to having different themes playing for both characters in some way. Is Fly Above Hatoyama at Night completely fan-made or is similar to a song in Touhou (because it does sound familiar)?

***** Fly Above Hatoyama at Night was originally a theme ZUN composed for Shuusou Gyoku '98 prototype (Project Gian). Back in 2004, he released a PMD file of Fly Above Hatoyama at Night (the one I used in this video) at his former blog, and two years later re-arranged it as "Fly above Hatoyama at Night - Power MIX" for the Perfect Memento in Strict Sense CD. So, it's kind of both Seihou and Touhou song. ^^

I will come out and admit that this turned out better then I anticipated. The music really flows very nicely with each respective stage it is a part of, it fits right in with the game. Truly it was already fun getting use to playing each stage and memorizing it through the music, I know that's one thing ZUN likes to do, sync up his music with the stages that play them. So learning how to get used to the stages with new music will be something I know I'll enjoy. Thought I do have a pressing question: are most of these unused theme's compatible, or at least work with the FM(26) option on? I know that most of the existing unused themes heard in Mystic Square's music room have one of those versions already. But Fly Above Hatoyama At Night? The unused themes of Inanimate Dream and Decoration Battle? That much I'm very much unsure of myself. Heck this goes for Story of Eastern Wonderland too, that game has a MIDI option, which there is no MIDI existing for those unused themes as far as I know. Putting aside that, I must thank you for providing a demonstration of what this is like, I'm overjoyed to see this has come along!

Yep, all 6 unused LLS tracks from Mystic Square's music room are compatible with the FM(26) option, and unfortunately, there are no 26K or MIDI versions for the other themes you've mentioned.

I see. Well as long as the games run okay without them I guess it's no big deal. I understand 26K was a thing made because some the NEC PC-9801 systems had either 86 or 26K compatible sound devices, so it was there for people who had one or the other back in the day. But people rarely, if at all, play these games with the FM(26K) option on, myself included, because emulation doesn't worry about the sound device limitations. I think I played through the games once or twice with FM(26K) on just to see how the music was like, but ultimately I like the FM(86) option because that's the music at it's best, so that's what I'll stick with. ^^

I'm quite disappointed that Bad Apple was not repitched to match that of the trial version. Other than that, this is quite impressive.

This video was made before I noticed the pitch difference, iirc. The current wip version of the patch has the trial version of Bad Apple included. I really need to get back to this and finish what I started.

***** The unused version of Decoration Battle isn't in Mystic Square's music; it came as an exclusive bonus to Akyu's Untouched Score vol. 1 Disk B in a non-PMD format, so the only way they can use it in this patch is if it's recreated.

JeeP has gone on record in comment of the Inanimate Dream (Unused Version) PMD recreation saying that the patches here are likely moving forward when the recreation of Orange's unused theme has also been recreated. The chance for an ETA is likely close to release once that recreation is finished, but I cannot speak on much more than that since I do not know how much more work is left.

I'm not sure if this is on the agenda, but if it isn't, can I request separating the different alternate songs into different patches, so that you can mix and match them yourself? I would love to have the unused boss themes, but *don't* want to lose the magnificent Alice Maestra, or the melancholy goodness that are the stage 1 themes! If separating them all is too much to ask for, can we then at least get the unused boss themes -- which were specifically desined for where they appear in the game -- in a separate patch from the other unused themes -- which were put in places where they're the least offensive, but not designed for them -- you understand what I mean, right?

Originally, I've planned to have only two Unused Music patches for LLS - one would include every unused theme (Lotus Road, Fly Above Hatoyama at Night, Decoration Battle, Dreamy Pilot, Incomplete Plot, Border Land, Inanimate Dream, Crescent Dream & Magic Shop of Raspberry), and the other would be exactly the same as the first one, but with a visible hitbox patch added to it. I could create many variations of the Unused Music patch, but the problem is, I would also have to edit the .exe files and music room commentary, add hitbox patch variations for each UM patch, add Anex/T98 versions of every patch, and test everything. As you can see, this can quickly become a mess. (^^; It's possible to use different boss themes for Reimu and Marisa (e.g. in-game versions of Decoration Battle and Inanimate Dream for Reimu, and unused versions for Marisa, or vice versa), or I could just keep the original stage music and replace Orange's and Yuuka's boss themes with the unused versions. I guess I could add two more Unused Music patches. (^^; So, from now on, we're going to have three (six) Unused Music patches for LLS: 1) UM patch (full), 2) UM patch (stage themes only), and 3) UM patch (boss themes only); plus three more patches with visible hitboxes added.
