I agree Touhou good analysis, butters definitely made a dumb decision or actions to get his account "hacked". My first account had many SSRs and SRs servants in one month because of whaling on the banners I can roll for, but didn't have the time to playing it enough to farm materials and EXP for acensions no and skills due to work. I just gave it to my brother for him to play while I have my second account that I play to some degree.

if you see my pfp popping up every now and again during the sections where I show the reddit threads, that's because my computer's processor is dying and is starting to have trouble editing videos monkaS Edit: bit of an update: after asking around about Butters' situation, I've been told that this isn't the first time Butters has tried to sell off his FGO account; in fact, evidently he's been trying as far back as last December or so, and one of his attempts actually became a bit of a meme when he asked for the same high-end audio equipment as part of the deal. I've also been told that Arklash, the guy who responded to Butters' reddit thread shown in the video asking to negotiate over Discord, is a known scammer, which lines up with the Discord screenshots that Butters posted where the other guy says "i've been doing this for a while", so it's likely Arklash with whom Butters was talking in those screenshots. By this point, I'm fairly confident in my accusation that Butters is blatantly lying to Aniplex in an attempt to take his account back from Arklash by calling this a hacking problem when likely he was the one who fucked up and somehow forfeited his account to Arklash, and he's also knowingly hiding the fact that he tried selling his account so that Aniplex doesn't know about it, since if they do, they won't give a damn about his account anymore. This, to me, is very clearly Butters' own damn fault and not at all Aniplex's responsibility; they should not have to cover for the stupid shit that he's gotten himself into. Edit 2: Arklash is not the scammer in question; after speaking with quite a few people about the matter, it seems that he simply happened to leave a comment there on Butters' original thread on /gotrades and it's the one that I noticed still remaining. The scammer is someone else entirely, so apologies to Arklash for falsely getting him involved in this situation.

While I think 99% of the stuff you said here is fair and I agree that you've probably hit the nail on the head with this situation, I do wanna say it's kinda unfair to question why Butters didn't pay the $300 the guy was asking for to give the account back. Clearly he's dealing with a scammer who's used to doing this kind of stuff, so what's to say the ransom isn't also a scam? You're right in saying that amount should be chump change compared to what was already spent on the account, but criticizing someone for not paying a scammer the ransom they're asking for seems a bit unreasonable.

Fair argument, but in this case (despite what my tone sounds like in the video) I was prioritizing the safety of Butters' account first and foremost. Having to pay a scammer sucks, I get that, and it's most likely why Butters isn't doing it, why pay a dude who's deceived/scammed you. But imo, in a situation where a scammer has possession of your FGO account and putting in a support ticket to Aniplex already failed (which is what Butters already did), there's not much you can do; the only realistic way to get the account back is to comply with the scammer's demand. It's like having a chance of getting it back is better than having no chance of getting it back, or getting it back with irreversible damage.

I actually considered selling a acount to a different game. But after doing research on it i found it wouldnt be worth the time or money to get it correctly. Plus those on our server that i considered selling to may have also been subjected to a scam based on some of those who i talked to outside of the game who fell for the scammer that was on the server. I decided to forgo all the money i sunk into the game and give it to a friend in my alliance. Best way of dealling with such an issue imo. Especially if you keep in touch with them.

From what i understand Not a whale was also a twitch streamer under a different name known for being fairly racist, got banned, started to do FGO, was being openly racist in his discord (i saw screen shots so there is a chance all this could be true), got called out and left the community for good. Also he got caught being on twitch having already been banned on a different account and got banned again from my understanding. This is all second hand knowledge but its highly likely to be true based on what was presented to be at the time.

AFAIK If you have your account logged in, people cant ask for recovery. Because the only "honest reason" as to why you want to recover your account is you deleted / unistalled the app and forgot to rebind. Or maybe lost your phone somehow, never had it logged in in any other device, and especially helpful if you bought even quartz to leave trace in google play. While if you trade/sell it and got scammed... This means your account is logged in in another device with different google account. Pretty much not possible if you lose it the "honest" way. If you have 2 accounts, then when you are changing account, one of them will not be logged in and has chance to be stolen via customer support. Which is why it's never encouraged to have multiple accounts. All are just my speculations, but if you keep it honest with 1 account, and not buying / selling accounts, there won't be any problem if these are correct.

Since I am apparently involved in all this let me give my 2 Cents... I think butters is a good guy as he has never shown me anything otherwise. I also dont blame him for attempting to tweet about the situation because the conventional method of getting his account back has already failed him... I think Butter's usage of the word hacked was a bad choice in words. Scammed is far more accurate. IDK what happened play for play but i think the scammer recovered the account through conventional means by utilizing the huge amount of information butters posted on multiple sale threads. (could be wrong tho) The original scammer no longer owns the account and it was sold to a new user (I learned from my own investigative work) I sympathize because I've been scammed on stuff like this before & spend alot of cash myself on FGO. Those screenshots taken from my stream are real, and he shouldn't have said that to Zero, I think that was probably a emotional knee-jerk reaction to having his a 20,000 dollar mistake "rubbed in his face." as he stated, regardless if we think that was rubbing it in, i cant invalidate someones feelings. I dont condone selling and this is a hazard of doing business like this, be careful with your account information folks.

I don't think that it's just a matter of bad word choice, because if Butters specifically said that he got scammed in his tweets, then Aniplex wouldn't do anything because they're not at all responsible for recovering his account, whereas emphasizing that he got hacked would convey a sense of faultlessness that only Aniplex could take any action for. So imo he knowingly decided to claim that he got "hacked" to see if he could convince Aniplex to step in for him. And if the original scammer did sell off the account, then the account's as good as gone; I don't know how Butters can get it back by that point. This video reminded me of the time my runescape account was stolen because I was too trusting of random people on the internet. Free trade just came back and some guy in the game told me that if I gave him my login name and password, he'll give me free membership in celebration of free trade. Being the naive child that I was, I agreed and lost my first runescape account. It was a pretty sad time for me, but I learned my lesson and moved on.

If you spend a bunch of money on a game and lose interest, don't feel like you've wasted that money. Because what you were paying for wasn't the loot or the cosmetics or whatever they game has, because all that shit is just numbers in a computer. What you paid for was an experience and that's something that's been built into your very being. I must have spent at least $500 on League of Legends, and at first I definitely felt like all my purchases were going to waste having them so fresh in my mind. But now I don't care because the only thing I remember are the good times I had with my friends, and the purchases contributed to that whole atmosphere. Butters made that fgo account they're own when they raised that Nitocris, that's the best part about this game and why it's so successful: the characters are so memorable and you create a special connection. Unfortunately, both Butters and Aklash lose sight of this because they only see fgo as a material and soulless object to be exchanged for money. You can try to resell and account, but you can never resell the memories that you made while playing the game, so you'll never get back everything you devoted.

I don't believe on his claims that his account was hacked. FGO devs anticipated that hacking existed ever since the beginning that's why they decided to use bind codes instead of binding accounts using emails. Well, I might be wrong but its my opinion and hacking accounts using codes might be harder to hack since you as a player has the 100% full control on your account and if this hacking is possible on FGO accounts we might be hearing this first on JP server but by far I don't hear this issue on their end..

Not sure if the answer is actually relevant but I was in that streamers chat for the last 2 weeks and saw the whole Butters thing beginning to end. The scammer sold the account and the streamer put Butters in contact with an account trading discord master who knew where the account got sold to.

comming to the conclusion that the guy wasnt hacked but was in fact just an idiot isnt all that hard. for starters you cant just take the account of someone else since you need the bind code and password together with the account id to access it from a different device. so its pretty much impossible to hack an account unless you have all 3 of those pieces of data.

So I guess I'm confused about how transfer codes work. I babysit my IRL friend's account when he goes on vacation. The first time I tried transfering it into my old phone it didn't work even though it said the transfer was successful. That was because my account data was still there even after moving it to my new phone. This caused the transfer code to be considered used but my friend just went back into his game and made a new one. So even if some guy got Butters' transfer code wouldn't his data still be there? I'll admit I've never tried to open an account after it was transfered.
