Touka Saikan, Chinese Restaurant, Kyoto / 東華菜館 中華料理店 京都

The building was designed by William Merrell Vories. It was built in 1926 for a Western restaurant. It was the only restaurant building in his life, as he had worked on many school and church buildings. However, during the war, it became difficult for the Western restaurant to survive, and it was given to a Peking cuisine chef, which was the beginning of Tohka Naikan. It is famous for the oldest existing elevator in Japan. Visitors can enjoy authentic Peking cuisine while appreciating the Spanish Baroque architecture.
