@@Northman57 He's pointing out that 2% of Amazon would be something anyone should be willing to get out of bed for. Touker's famous line is that he 'doesn't get out of bed for a small percentage of a venture. Insanely large and profitable ventures 'should' be an exception to a rule like this. But because it's such a 'firm rule' the way he says it, people like to point out the instances where a small percentage stake would still be worth his while (and therefore point out why he'd be hurting himself with this commitment). A flip-side to this would be if you could imagine a shark saying: "I'll buy any deal if I get 50% of it." - you would likely see a lot of people pointing out absolutely ridiculous and absurd deals that are clear failures and flops just because this rule existed for this shark or dragon. People would be keen on pointing out that 'if you buy 50% of a bad enough deal, it's still going to really hurt you'. In Touker's case, his common saying is that he doesn't accept a very small stake in something. He doesn't 'get out of bed' for that insanely small number. People respond to this by showing cases where he might miss out based on this rule because the insanely small number of % could still be worth a great overall number (ie: 2% of Amazon). Thanks-!

She's a great dragon, but in terms of net worth they are in different stratosphere. In fact, Jones is worth more than other four dragons combined. Most companies have an expected level of loss at the beginning - hell, even Amazon was making huge losses at the start. What makes it an interesting prospect is that, despite the losses, more and more investors are lining up, which means there's something there. Plus there's the fact that, while there is a loss, the company is still growing. And, if you watched, the 5% that was ultimately granted was undilutable.
@ajjo69873 жыл бұрын
Probably using it as laundry for dirty money,there is no way with that loss every month would make money cos even if they grow a bit they would still be just covering money what they already lost .plus you can get online writers to write your book in second there is nothing unique about that

This is the dumbest investment ever, and why are the investors asking for 5%-7% of this? Those investors could start their own biography company for much less money and own 100% of the company. I'm just surprised how Debroah went from basically saying it should be on Rough Traders to saying she wouldn't invest as she'd want to do loads more with it! The concept was exactly the same so it's very bizarre. I just think the dragons are inconsistent and a lot of it has to do with how they are feeling at the time.

The company ultimately rejected the offer as they were subsequently able to secure a greater amount of funding for a higher valuation. They doubled their sales in 2019 and their posted accounts at Companies House shows a very healthy balance sheet.

dont believe a word of that bs... They were burning cash at a ridiculous rate -- I for one wouldnt trust them to tell me the time in a room full of clocks!

@@Albimar17 Are you saying their posted accounts are fraudulent?
@djpeekay253 жыл бұрын
I had a look as well as I thought it was interesting what you said. Their 2020 accounts are unaudited where they made a £2.6m loss and though they have a large debtor balance of £1.2m, only £45k of that are Trade Debtors. The 2019 accounts are minimal with barely any detail, so really difficult to gauge an accurate picture. As far as them being a going concern, I would be surprised if they survive much longer. Investors are getting no return and I can’t see an exit strategy on this. It’s a great idea though, but I would love to know where they are burning their money. Must be poor marketing.

@@DealerD8vE they are inaccurate at best -- more to the story as deejay peekay uncovered, and I thank him for his contribution! Btw given C19 factor, I would expect their losses to build up even more, as during recession it would be one the last few items on people's mind that people would be willing to buy out of curiosity, let alone out of necessity.

@@djpeekay25 Just because accounts are unaudited, doesn't mean a company can play fast and loose with them - but I get your point. On reflection, calling a balance sheet recording a £2.6m loss "very healthy" was perhaps a little too positive on my part. However, what kills companies is a lack of cash flow. As you pointed out, they have a £1.2m debtor balance - almost double that of 2019. They've got £800k cash in the bank with less than £300k in external creditors to pay - and no outstanding long-term creditors. So "on paper" it looks like they have sufficient liquidity and shareholder capital to absorb the losses as they try to establish this new market. I'm actually quite skeptical that they'll succeed but considering all of the above, as long as they keep their shareholders sweet they might just do it. BTW I'm not an accountant feel free to correct me!

The last time a guy went into the den with this idea he got booted out with Debra saying he will take advantage of old people and pressure them into spending money they didn't have.

This is all I was thinking for the whole of this episode. Considering on top of that these guys were haemorrhaging money and way overvaluing the business, I'm surprised they weren't completely brutalised.

Have the producers of BGT taken over Dragons Den, every pitch seems to have to have a personal sob story added to it now. Keep it as business thats what the den is for.
