Well, Tony is livin in paradise. You can see the work, they've put into it. The water element is precious. Wonderful and Summer had a good time. P. S. I purchased 4 tiny types of Acer Palmatum. They are still inside and I've noticed that they occasionally give off a cloud, of their own scent. One dropped some leaves. It waited one more day, in the store for me, than the others. (That was a fun video tour. Wishing continued success and gentle weather, for Tony's creative habitats.)

MANY THANKS❤ Could you please show this garden in a different season like summer😮 It must be even more awsome❤ I'm wacthing you from Eastern-Europe and I learn a lot, not to mention I share your view, rather plant 400-500 type of plants in my garden, than Just 10-12 😢 that would be a shame and waist of land, I hope this new fashion, planting in masses a few species goes away soon😅

We focus on native plants but are fine with some cultivars if they don’t do things like make double blooms or change leaf color. Native plant friends don’t like it when I do it. But my prime directive is 1. No invasives 2. Native plants, 3 native cultivars 4 non native non invasives that we love or see important for the garden design. We appreciate your tour

Really good question. Seems as if the native plants adapted to that condition though. It's strange because I worked on reclaiming a mine site as a teenager, where the normally neutral pH was hovering around 4.5 and the plants were really suffering.

Close to 30 years ago I started to garden and was insulted by self-declared gardening experts who said specimen plants made your garden a clown garden. Most people have small little plots where you want as much as you can on it. Means lots of specimens. Also, it is said you should avoid scented plants for your neighbors sake and at most have only one scented plant because too many would smell awful and make people sick. I kept gardening my own way I wanted for my own pleasure. The facts of experience: Your plants will be divided in Springs and spread so are not specimen plants after enough years. You can start with just one plant and see how it makes it in your garden. For scent? Plants emit smells at different times. Some in evening like 4 0clocks, some at night to attract moths, some only after a rain. Smell is to attract pollinator it wants. Some bloom in March and some bloom in May. I read you should never let your mints grow from seed as you would muddle flavors. Somebody in growing new mint cultivars by growing mint from seed. Plenty of people say never to grow fruit from seed and lie about results one would receive, just trying to block people from being adventurous and patient. Block people from joy of gardening. I was told by an adamant co-worker it was illegal to save seeds from your garden, yes even heritage seeds were illegal according to him. Everybody wants to control you and tell you no, and they are just cynical domineering liars. Only true rule I was actually told was to not let lavender go to seed but to cut off flowers in order to extend life of a lavender plant. Since doing that my lavender is now over a decade old when I used to need to buy new plants every 2-3 years. To be a gardener you should have advice, but never any rules for others. Life finds a way.

It's not really true to say that all pollinators don't care about whether a plant is native or not. Moths and butterflies can be very, very specific about native origin. Nobody ever said that pollinators don't go to cultivars. Ever.

Well he’s dead wrong about how good Asian plants are for insect life. Not to mention people who have brought plants back from Asia have brought us some terrible diseases for our native plants such as chestnut blight. I’m from flordia and our native plants are just so much more beautiful then the Asian crap they have at lowes.
Plant Delights shipping costs are unreal. They have a wonderful collection of plants but I personally will probably not ever consider them a go to nursery for plants. That’s just me though, probably one in a million that can’t afford their shipping. ☹️💐💚🙃
@FlockFingerLakes8 ай бұрын
As a customer, I felt the same way, but after touring the facility, you realize ALL that goes into it-from plant hunting to hybridizing to seed collection to growing and propagating (sometimes very, very slow plants), to managing the space and all the facilities of 100,000s of plants and 27,000+ varieties, (which in turn, have very different care and propagation strategies) in a very non-industrial way, and then you get the sense that he's undercutting himself on price. WAIT till you see the propagation techniques he's using (another episode on our sister channel)... It's really mind-blowing. And those techniques can take years and years of growth, which means space for plants (not in-production) and not selling them until they are absolutely ready. These are investment plants, for sure, but the fact that they are even offered is a gift alone.
