being a former professional endurance athlete and still loving the sport:s, it's great to see a show like this on Netflix. what I would hope for, is that endurance sports somehow get the recognition that they deserve. they're pretty much the most brutal sports. especially cycling. compared to professional cycling, running, swimming, cross ountry skiing, etc. most of the global super sports seem like elementary school sports classes.
@draregrevtaam1147 Жыл бұрын
Endurance sports are about pushing your body to the absolute limit. Still in cycling technique also plays it part, like being a good descender. Or being able to position yourself in the bunch. There have been riders that can push the watts TdF winners do, but were just not able to ride in a peloton. (Remmert Wielinga for example, still taking KOMS around Monaca at his age). Ofcourse the physical and mental limit is still the biggest part of cycling. In contrast to Football or basketball were technique is more important than endurance. Ofcourse pro footballers are really fit, but it's different than endurance sports. I don't think you should compare them tbh.
@riverbull5112 Жыл бұрын
@lumiere1864 I'm a teenage endurance cyclist, so far I've done 5 200 mile rides, and have just started doing bikepacking. I have 3 sponsors, but to me it feels impossible to make a career out of. Can you tell me what you did, what your path was? How did you go pro?
@empirelee7676 Жыл бұрын
I dont think you can compare sports this way. Put a cyclist in an American Football match and he will find this "brutal". Every sport has its specific profil of Athlets. Soccer for example is highly technical but has still a strong physical component (especially sprints, jumps, twists etc.).
@LEGENDWRLD. Жыл бұрын
@@empirelee7676It is true that each sport is specific and cannot be compared, but of all cycling is the most unfair sport and where the competition is pushed to the limit, in football they do not have 7 games according to Followed in 1 week, on the other hand, in cycling, a round like that, is 3 weeks of daily hours to the limit and that if you have an accident in one of them, mechanical or physical, you are left without competition
@hobmarg Жыл бұрын
@@LEGENDWRLD. but in football (American, NFL) the instantaneous power that 300+ lbs dudes are putting out in sprints/tackles and the play calling is pretty insane at the speed it happens. Different worlds, but both top level elite human athletics.

this was an amazing series. I do not watch cycling and I was captivated by this show. Beautiful images of France and the endurance it takes to compete at this level. Loved it.

Cycling is a brutal sport....this series is absolute incredible! Gave me goosebumps
@donnovicki97718 ай бұрын
These guys are brutally underpaid. With the winner of the GC getting just a little over 500,000 Euros. Big deal, you win an extra 500 Euros for each stage you win. That's a little over 1/2 million dollars for the winner. Most American athletes wouldn't even get out of bed for 1/2 million. These guys need a serious pay upgrade.
@she_who_dares9713 Жыл бұрын
Know probably only about 10% of what Tour de France is about. Finished the series in one go. Absolutely loved the stories of endurance, survival, team spirt. I like it more now than F1 just because the sport, inherently, has less chance of BS than F1. I'm absolutely followng this sport from now on. ❤❤
@dawnc5797 Жыл бұрын
Last year was my first TdF watching all the stages and it was not disappointing. My husband has followed cycling for 20 years and has been a fan of Primoz Roglic and Wout van Aert (both Jumbo Visma) and also Chris Froome and Daryl Impey to name a few. We were pulling for Jumbo but didn't think anyone could beat Pogacar, the best cyclist in any peloton right now. Stage 11 was a strategic masterpiece by Jumbo and a masterclass in how to do just that. If you really want to watch this year's Tour you should get Peacock streaming service for the month of July. They show every stage from start to finish. My advice is to not watch live though because the number of commercial breaks will make you want to jump off a cliff. 😄 Watch the replays. Or watch the extended highlights if you don't want to watch whole stages. If you want to see more team stuff go to their youtube channels. Jumbo Visma has an almost hour-long documentary they did in the run up to last year's season. It's called Plan B. It's really a good look into the team. Other teams have good content. Ineos Grenadiers, EF Education, Soudal Quickstep, Israel Premiertek, DSM, etc. I was a DTS/Formula 1 fan until I started watching team channels and realized DTS manufactured so much BS it was ridiculous. I still follow Haas on Instagram but I don't watch DTS anymore. I was scared shitless Netflix would ruin road cycling/TdF with this docu but so far it's not too bad.

I got REALLY into cycling after watching the 2020 TDF..couldn’t have gotten into it at a better time IMO and have had so much fun learning about this beautiful sport. Beyond the sport bicycles are life changing and it really has brought me back to being a kid riding around the neighborhood. I hope to see a plethora of new fans and bicycle riders after this series releases!

Tour De France is strange. It started with a bad summer 15 years ago for me. It rained for four straight weeks and the only thing on TV was the tour. I watched it together with my dad. And after that I was hooked. I don't watch cycling the rest of the year. I don't cycle myself. But I watch Tour De France. I guess I am not alone :)

Kinda sucks how underrated and underpaid of a sport cycling is compared to everything else. Anyone who has done a hill climb knows the amount of pain and suffering .. then factor in the career threatening crashes and bodily harm that comes with hitting the pavement at 30mph.
