Not necesseraly because a heavier cyclist also has more muscle (since these guys are basically pure muscle), and more muscle also means it's easier to fight gravity So there should be an optimum weight above which more muscle does not help you fight gravity anymore but just slows you down.
@EgelundB3 жыл бұрын
@@manoncamous8698 Obviously, tho that will still not make them able to keep up with the light climbers. It also very much comes down to what type of muscle fibers you train/are genetically gifted. People who don't follow cycling often ask me why, in clips of the TDF, the riders "aren't trying to pass." This video offers a good explanation of why: road cycling isn't about going all-out all the time, but rather about picking your battles and saving your energy for the crucial moments. This is why teams are so important. And it's also why a road race unfolds so differently from a mountain bike or cyclo-cross race. In those subdisciplines, the speeds are much lower, and wind resistance is less important. So they unfold more like a running race in which the competitors gradually drift apart based on strength.

There is such a formula though. Several in fact, they just didn't show it in the video. - Be a much better climber than anyone else. Have your team dictate a very high tempo in the mountain stages and attack only when everybody lost all of their domestiques. - Be a "merely" very good climber but much better time trialist than comparable climbers. Don't care about the attacks, just do a constant tempo on the climbs then destroy them in the TT.

Some charity bike shops give away old bikes or sell them cheap to people who can't afford bikes. In fact, most of the Vuelta a Colombia is done in the Colombian Andes, plus the riders have to cross the three Colombian Andean cordilleras, go across the Cauca valley and Magdalena valley which is blistering hot and ascend to really high altitudes and low temperatures. The Vuelta a Colombia in many ways is more extreme than the Tour de France.
@hendrikdependrik18915 жыл бұрын
Indeed. I couldn't imagine France has the most extreme tour. To be honest, I was thinking about Central-Eastern Asia (Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, China) where the Himalayans can be found or even just Switzerland in Europe, but the Andes are extreme too. To be honest, I expect every Andes country (Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Argentina, Chile) + Brazil to be more extreme than France.

Racing a bike is just brutal in general. These guys train so much and literally anything can happen. In example, they get stuck in a crash or a mechanical issue with their bike. Imagine a pro NFL player getting to the super bowl and be taken out because of some issue with his cleats. Cycling is literally like a game of chess going 30 mph. Vox, great video.

For reference, at the ideal position in a peloton wind resistance was is reduced by 95% according to some wind tunnel studies. Wind resistance isn’t everything of course, and when you’re only getting 5% of the leader’s wind, the previously negligible inefficiencies such as rolling resistance become more apparent.

well, when talking about climbs, the giro and vuelta are harder. The actual real reason why it is more difficult to win a Tour de France is because it is so prestigious that every single one of the best riders come in peak form, therefor you have to be best of the best to win it all, unlike other grand tours (don't get me wrong, they're insanely difficult aswell, but the the challenge coming from the other riders usually isn't as great).
