In this video we tour Elicia's Cob Tiny House, Geodesic Dome Home, and a Deltec kit house finished in an incredibly beautiful and artistic way by Elicia and her ex-partner Andres. All of these homes are nestled into the North Carolina Mountains near Asheville, NC.
Elicia moved from California after a career in tech to pursue her dream of homesteading, and communal living. She purchased land, and moved into a tiny house on wheels and spent the next several years finishing a 13 sided kit home built by Deltec (www.deltechome...) into her forever home. The cob house, built by Sage Stoneman and Elicia, and inspired by the work of artist Sunray Kelley (www.sunraykell...) came a couple of years later along with the 20 ft Geodesic Dome by Pacific Domes (pacificdomes.c....

I love that young people in particular are moving to simpler living. This is the way humans will move. It's the only way to get out of the system

With that generous roof overhang, I think the cob house will last.

Really pisses me off how we have to get permission on what kind of homes we can build for ourselves to live in on property we own. They don't give a shit if you go homeless, but you'd better follow their rules on what type of dwelling you build yourself to live in or they won't let you live in it. (Yes, I know the reasons for why building codes exist. NO, I don't need anyone to explain them to me.)

Yeah I agree with you wholeheartedly. As long as you don't do harm to your neighbor or create some kind of a deathtrap just do what makes sense for you.

My husband and I are planning on using Wattle and daub for our wet climate which gets both hot and cold. I really like the 3 month construction time since we only plan on doing one room at a time and only 6 months out of the year to work on it.

Good old fashioned Wattle And Daube method. Colonists to this country brought it with them from the “old countries” to build their first homes too. Not just log cabins or all wood joinery and siding structures. What I would like to know is how good really is the engineering/ strength in cob structures? Especially against natural events like earthquakes, hurricanes, etc.? Thanks for sharing this

Cob is very, very resilient! Particularly with the old saying, "give her a good hat and good shoes and she'll last for centuries." Cob needs a good stone foundation and a good roof, but there is cob in the UK which has lasted for centuries and going on. For natural disasters like earthquakes, I believe that underneath (or a part of the foundation) underneath the stone you would put gravel, to help with movement either from cold or small quakes. Hurricanes, I believe there's a man here on youtube that uploaded a video of his cob home after he had to be evacuated for a hurricane, and his was perfectly fine, only needing to dry out naturally for a bit! Cob really is an amazing medium (because it is an art!) for building, not only are we building WITH nature and not against her, but it is so good for the nature around and is a blessing from Mother Earth. Best of luck to you, I really hope you decide to build with this amazing, magical material!
