My Father worked up there when the Power House was still in operation. That’s what led me to my profession. Grandpa ran the hog farm and worked the prisoners. Later that was MCCF. I walked all the buildings as a kid, one house was the Janus House for homeless children, don’t think it’s that anymore. As a young adult I worked for Multnomah County and saw what became of it before it was bought and made into what it is today. I’m glad it’s still around and became what it did.

Wow, that is so cool! Thanks for sharing your experience. It must be so interesting to visit it now as someone who grew up knowing it so well in its earlier form.

Love it! I have only been to McMenemins Elks Temple in Tacoma, WA. It’s amazing. I will visit here as well. Get a McMenemins Passport!

Still have memorabilia from the old boiler room thanks to my Dad. Maybe it’s time to take them back to where they came as I am getting older and have no one to pass them on to.

Very cool! I bet the McMenamins team would love to see it and learn about the history 😀. I found a link on their website that specifically encourages reaching out to share stories or artifacts from their properties! Here it is: www.mcmenamins.com/add-to-our-history-archives

I just did a storytime about the historic Edgefield property before McMenamins came in & saved it & saved us kids who grew up there from having to witness horrible things happening to the wild bunny population there so it’s not a story for the faint hearted. They say the place is haunted & maybe this is why. I also share the story of the time the JackA boys filmed there one day. It’s in my Growing Up in Rock n Roll series where I share stories growing up with bands and songs I may have helped on & stuff. So lots of cool stories in that playlist. But now this historic property is an Amazing travel destination.
