I'm not Jewish nor do I have any recent Jewisg ancestors, but I had several Jewish friends in childhood whose families included the little gentile girl in family sleepovers with their daughters, and a few memorable Jewish holidays. Ir's fascinating to learn about ultra-Orthodox Jewish cultures I didn't experience from somebody that did, and for whom the memories are not mostly painful. I'm emailing this URL to some friends.

I think it’s great that there are toys that model what children see in their real lives. The only thing I’d say though - Barbies biggest “perk” was that she could be anything. I think that’s great, kids could imagine being a vet, being a mom, being an astronaut, whatever. I don’t see that in the toys you’re showing. It’s just the one life they should be imagining.

Almost 52 years ago, in hospital after the birth of my first child, the woman in the bed next to me was a jewess. Our babies were born on the same day and we also shared our birthday the following day. I cannot remember her name, but I remember she named her daughter Berulya (not sure of spelling). I also remember her asking me to turn the bathroom light on for her on Friday evening through to Saturday evening.

Another fun video. It fascinates me how you have discovered things such as Barbie culture as an adult. On so many levels. Its a testament to the insularity of the community, and its also a guilty pleasure of getting to see someone discover things familiar to me. It's like reading a travel writer's impression of your city. Also, you might be interested to know a few specific details about Barbie culture. Youre not wrong or anything, your impression is the overall impact, but it has had a few moments that are more nuanced. Barbie's eyes used to look of the side, glancing away, submissive. It changed to looking directly ahead at a time when women started asserted themselves. And then with Barbie's professions, she's occasionally been ahead of society, occasionally catching up. Astronaut, business woman, doctor, whatever. Sometimes she came first, sometimes real humans were first.

Oh Frieda...What a wonderful store you introduced us to! Although I am 62 years old I L O V E toys and toy stores. Such a beautiful reflection of the culture...not so different from my childhood, although I am not jewish but christian. I would be able to spend an entire day in the lovely shop with so many interesting items. I have been looking online for things such as the 3D creations of buildings, jewish games or puppets. Love the little Mentschies... They reflect beautiful values and normal life. Don´t know how anyone would call the toys there "brain washing". That is not so at all. I live in Germany and there are not really many toy stores for me to visit and if so very small ones. I greatly respect and admire the jewish culture and have been learning Yiddisch for about 1,5 years now. It is so hard to even find children books in Yiddish, not even to speak of a book that is for adults in very simple Yiddisch for learing adults as myself. It has been my dream to visit Jerusalem for a long time. However, with the political situation and the war... I would be happy just to fly to New York and spend all my time in the hasidic community, if that were possible. As everywhere, I realize it is not a perfect world and especially for women life is not easy. Nevertheless, it is a community with it´s heart in the right place - helping each other and having strong morals and values. Thank you so much for this great toy shop tour. I am ready and waiting for more of your great videos - and would appreciate your including more in depth shop tours. Toy shops, silver shops, jewelry shops and of course book shops !
