Great to see you Gill! I use to be one of the girls who use to sneak in on horseback too! Back in the 70's. I use to ride with Carrie and Mary Alice... It was a wonderful park. So glad you are still there keeping it the way it was!

Wow, lol, I remember Gil driving all through the brush with his jeep, jumping stumps and all,, chasing after two of my friends who had caught some brookies! That was around '67, '68 wow!!! What memories I have of fishing several different sites along the trail all the way up river, to the little dam! Caught some real nice trout, and saw some beautiful wildlife every single time we went there!

As one story ends, and another begins, I hope Connetquot's helm will be guided by another whose hand will be as steady, as was Gil's. I hope it will be someone whose heart will be entwined with Connetquot's own, as was Gil's. I hope it will be someone who loves Connetquot as one loves a spouse, and who protects Connetquot as a parent protects their offspring. I hope it will be someone who will think of the position of superintendent/manager as a privilege, as did Gil. I hope nothing will change, in Connetquot's daily life, and I hope that, in everything that exists, there within the Gem of Long Island, Gil's spirit will continue to abide. I hope Gil enjoys an energetic eternity, in the peaceful place he cherished.

Beverly Sutton Lawrence Very nice words.. I just heard the news of Gil’s passing. He had a long life, I truly believe he enjoyed everyday of his life as Superintendent of the Preserve. RIP..

I lived nearby where the Vanderbilt property is. My son went swimming at the State Park. It really is beautiful.
