In this tour of Eagle River, Alaska I take you all the way from the river bed of Eagle River (the actual river) to the top of Mt. Baldy overlooking the town and everything in between of this quiet community. I couldn't find any moose or bear the morning I went out, but stay tuned I'm sure it's just a matter of time :)

I grew up in Eagle River through the 70's and 80's. Thanks for the great video. I haven't been home since 96' and things have changed so much it was hard to recognize as the cameraman drove around. I was glad to see Carrs apparently survived WalMart. Can't believe Tipps bar is still there.

I think I have got all the people who commented beat in terms of how long ago I lived there. I was in the 5th grade in the spring of 1962 and I lived there for 4 or 5 months before moving to Spenard for another 2.5 years. My dad was stationed at Ft. Richardson. He was in the 172nd infantry Brigade. I loved the time i spent in both places. I was there during the 1964 earthquake. Sadly my dad was transferred to Virginia, California and Germany in subsequent years. He retired in 1968 in California and I finished my senior year of high school in California. I met a California girl and got married, attended the University of California at Davis and we lived in California for over 50 years before moving to Nevada last summer. In my younger days I really wanted to return to Alaska to live, but career and Kids got in the way. I am not sure I would like it there as much as when I was in 5th-8th grade. The population has grown so much. I believe Anchorage was at 45,000 and the state was at 90,000. There were no freeways and we could just walk a few hundred yards into the woods to cut down a Christmas tree. Fish were plentiful at Bird Creek and kids could catch small trout within a 5 minute hike from our house. Not sure how things are there now. I heard that there are a lot of drugees in the area. At any rate it's too cold for a 70 year old to be moving there now. Compared to California, even the Nevada weather is cold. Life is what it is. I guess it wasn't meant for me to return, but I sure loved those 3 years that I lived there. Good luck to all who live there now. I wish you all the best.

Fishing upper & lower Fire lake as kids. We'd take off on our bikes for days and ride the bike paths to Anchorage and back. Swimming in lake Minnow, the state fair in Talkeetna (sp?). Taking out a moose with a 6 person tabogan. Lol

Goecker Group Yes and yes. Although, I can’t think of any specific questions at the moment. (Even though hundreds are swirling around my head.) I guess we are basically fish out of water and know very little. I’m doing as much research as I can, which hopefully helps me compose some intelligent questions. This is all pretty last minute, which is insane. So if you are willing to have questions lobbed at you, I may take you up on that sooner than later. Since his job will be in Anchorage, I guess there or Eagle River (mainly because of the KZbin videos)??? No idea. (Pretty sure you’re not suppose to move to a place like AK so unprepared.) Any-who, thanks for the response and videos!

I lived here most my life, mom move herself and I here, when I was 4 years old, and I loved it ever since, same as an adult, it's more of a family oriented environment here, but when you get into the city of Anchorage, It's a whole different story. I still love Alaska, I grew up there, it is my home. 😊

If you like really good traditional Tex-Mex, you’ll have to go to Anchorage. Forget Taco Bell and the three “Mexican” food restaurants here. They’re mediocre at best. La Cabana, Pancho’s Villa, Mexico in Alaska, and Taco King are the best you’ll get, especially La Cabana.

That's awesome man! The big difference between Eagle River and Fairbanks is that Fairbanks is a lot more extreme in its climate. I really encourage people moving to Alaska to consider the south central area and after experiencing a few winters, then thinking about upping the ante and moving to Fairbanks. I'd be happy to talk with you more about it if you would like. Text/call me at 907-229-1792.
