Tour of Elvis Presley Birthplace in Tupelo, Mississippi

Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi. The small two-room house with just three doors was built by his father Vernon, his grandfather and his uncle. Today this house is part of a historic museum and It is listed on the Mississippi Blues Trail.
The museum includes the birthplace of Elvis Presley, a museum and a Church building where the Presley family were regular visitors.
Elvis was one of the twin brothers born to the Presleys. His brother, Jessie Garon, was stillborn and got a gravestone at Graceland.

Wow! My father was the same age as Elvis, We still have the very same drop leaf Kitchen table,1 oil lamp, and a Ice box similar to the smaller one in this kitchen. ❤ warms my heart to see them. I own them now, I have an appreciation for antiques especially when they are family heirlooms ❤

I visited Elvis Presley's birthplace on August 16, 2017, the 40th anniversary of his death. I wanted to be where it all began that day, not where it all ended. A bus full of Danish tourists asked me to take their picture. I toured the house, the church, and the memorial chapel. When I went into the chapel, I saw an elderly black lady praying in one of the pews. I felt like I was intruding on a very private moment. Was she just another fan, or someone who knew him, perhaps even a friend? The thought even crossed my mind that she might be one of the Sweet Inspirations. I was very touched by it and I haven't forgotten it since.

Bro I just went there I have lived in pontotoc (for you wondering it's right beside tupelo) my while life and we met people from Germany, Greece, Canada, and Australia the ONE day we went I never knew it was such a popular area and I didn't even have to pay for a plane ticket lol

Woah crazy to think Lisa Marie Presley is gone. But it's crazy to hear about Elvis childhood home in Mississippi is also preserved as a landmark as his birthplace. It's just that the majority of fans and press mourning the death of Lisa Marie Presley either in the Los Angeles area or in Memphis at the Graceland compound. I don't know for now how many Lisa Marie and Elvis fans show up in this Mississippi location to mourn her.

I would guess so. He did a legendary homecoming show in Tupelo both 1955 and 1956 and I wouldn't be surprised if he did a visit to the house while in town.

It's not the original house where he was born, it's a similar one that was move there as a museum and the furniture is not the original one. The only real thing in this house is the bed location where Elvis was born.

Hello John, if I remember correctly the small family where quite poor at that time and so I guess they had to sleep all three in the same bed. There is lots of information at the Elvis Presley Museum that is part of the visit, but unfortunately I do not remember the details regarding the sleeping arrangements.

@@johnsteelman1410 Do you mean his parents lived somewhere else before? From my understanding Elvis was born in this house, built by his father, but they only lived here for about three years, so they moved somewhere else in Tupelo after that. But I'm no expert on the subject. :-)

Perhaps, but with that said... the house is really small and could easily be moved and put in a different location for any reason.
