Joolz, I'm so fortunate to have bump into your KZbin channel ! I've been to London 5 times and I seriously doubt I'll ever be able to go back again. Your videos have brought amazing memories of my days in the British capital so I can't find the words to thank you enough, they've made me feel as if I were there myself... Your Videos are both informative and entertaining,. I'm fully aware they mean hard work but please, keep them coming. Congratulations to you and to the cameraman !!! I discovered that I have ancestors who lived at number 70 and 69 South Audley Street in the 1800s. They were tradesmen living in a four storey Georgian house. Their shop on the same premises was called Archard's jewellery shop and it was located right across the street opposite Goode's China Shop. The present number 70 at the corner of South Street is not the one in the 1800s. The present building was built about 1899. Before that the Archards lived at 21 Robert Street near Grosvenor Square - Robert Street in Mayfair no longer exists. Many retail businesses have come and gone in mayfair - Archard's was one of many that few people know about. Mr Archard also worked for Alexander Purvis a clockmaker who lived in North Audley Street. My maternal grandmother's maiden name is Archard - that's where I get the ancestors.

This time it touched me deeply because I used to walk in May Fair a lot when I spent a time in London a long time ago. And Bond Street always make me remember of the song Bond Street by David/Bacharah. Thank you so much for these videos.

Thanks Terry. Yes, it's hard making videos in London. People get in the way, shout, try to put you off and make stupid remarks. Then there's all the ugly rubbish trucks in the way and white vans and scaffolding. They take a long time but it's good to know you like them!

Brilliant and thank you for the tour............... Did yo know Mayfair got its name in 1686 when King James II granted royal permission for a fair to be held on the site of what is now Shepherds Market in the first two weeks of May. At this time Soho, Whitehall, and the City were the addresses of choice for the wealthy

It was Spencer Tracy. Also a little boy said that it was the hardest place he had ever had to leave. When I was a child our London house was in Hill Street, and if we had to be in London on Sunday it was always lunch at Claridge's. The dish of the day back then was always chicken pie on Sunday. I think it was oxtail on Thursday, which my father always enjoyed there.

Beau Brummel and The Prince Regent did not get on. At a party or event The Prince Regent spoke to a person on Brummel's right, then to him left, ignoring Brummel. Brummel's revenge came a few minutes later when 'Priny' (The Prince's nickname.) was speaking to one of Brummel's friends. Brummel addressed his mate, saying: "Who's your fat friend?"

Claridge's was founded as Mivart's in 1812 and bought by Mr and Mrs Claridge, who owned the hotel next door. Mr Claridge was known for varying the depth of his bow, depending on whether a guest was Imperial, Royal or Serene highness.

7:30 the cravate or necktie was "invented" by Croat light cavalry military units in 1616... the statue is known as the Dandy, symbol of dandyism in Great Britain, although dandyism had its origins in the USA around 1777...
@lawmaker22
@lawmaker22 5 жыл бұрын
thats true, thats why its named cravate...Croat soldiers wear them first, i think they fought for napolen in that time..Their wives would tie like a scarf around their necks when they went to battle, french saw that, they liked it as a fashion detail so probably it came to England from France

Harry Winston was a good friend of possibly the greatest private trader, Jessie Livermore (Reminiscences Of A Stock Operator). He gave his wife a large fortune in jewels and whenever he had a bad run he would give the jewels back to Harry Winston and he would stake him to start up again. When he hit it big (which he mostly did) he would buy the jewels back. Amazing.

Never knew that about David Prowse, I guess not being from the UK, we only know him as Darth Vader and not the green cross man

It's quite an odd one but he was everywhere in the 80s!!

+evancortez2. Just as a matter of interest, David Prowse didn't provide the voice of Darth Vader because he (Dave) has a thick Bristol accent which would have made Darth a laughing stock. The voice over was provided by James Earl Jones.

Yes it's quite a famous story - he originally assumed he'd be VOICING Darth Vader as well, in is thick Bristol accent! ...Can't see it, somehow. Even though he continued to play Darth Vader physically, apparently he was openly quite narked about them not using his voice for many years after!!
