Ive been through the system 4 times and each time, the decision was up to me whenever I wanted to leave as long as the doctors felt confident I was safe. The only time you would be held involuntarily is if on a 72 hour hold or if you express intent to harm yourself once released.

I went to a psychiatric hospital and got held for a week even though I went there voluntarily.

Not true. You can be held as long as someone thinks you are a danger....no evidence required

the toilets could be like an airplane toilet so there would be no water initially, only if you flush would there be running water but drained quick enough not to drown it.

Looool. None of that stuff works. I have been through another hospital twice ( Johns Hopkins ) and they sort of had the same system worked out. You had to come out of your room to eat, drink, socialize, shower, go to the bathroom, etc.. Which is a terrible system. I can proudly say I beat it as well. I refused to eat for two days, on day three they got permission from my parents to put in an IV for fluids. After it being put in I had a nurse that watched me 24/7. Sill didn't go out of the room.

No, I've been in a mental ward twice and both times I believed I didn't need inpatient care but the doctors think differently. But then I live in New York state and they are bad at this. You can admitted involuntary for many reasons!

If you're on suicide watch there's a person that stands right outside of the door that has to be left halfway open. If they hear anything suspicious or you're taking too long then they can come in. The hospital I stayed at had no such thing as a quiet room; if you misbehaved theyd either drug you depending on how bad the situation was. Safety precautions do not work, suicide proofing everything makes it a challenge to me. I want to try and beat the system when I see it. I have nothing to loose.

thats inaccurate, a majority of the people who wind up on a unit are there voluntarily, they can leave whenever they like

What about the toilets? Is it also suicide proof? You can drown yourself in the toilet water if you were truly desperate to commit suicide ;) Oh and psychiatric hospitals are mental prisons. It's hell on earth. I notice that the video doesn't show "The Quiet room". I wonder if they use 4 point restraints to their patients?
