Brought back many memories of being in Yala in 1996 when I was as young as Eric and Allison. Leopards are rarely seen. We stayed in beach hut at the very tip of Sri Lanka - next landfall being Antartica. A few years later stayed in a super jungle hotel in Kandalama where the jungle actually grew into the hotel. Sri Lanka has such a variety of landscapes and climates, a great joy. Thanks for sharing from one of your patreons.

When I was there...I like spicy food and was disappointed the food in my hotel had been mellowed for Western tastes. I mentioned it to the staff who then bought me a portion of 'staff food' with each meal... yowser!! Hot???? ring of fire my friends, ring of flaming solar flare fire!!

Beautiful video❤. Wild animals of SL are peaceful towards people because the locals are kind and gentle. Not killing, harming or creating fear in any living being has been actively practiced by the majority buddhists for thousands of years. Buddhist monks teach how to live with compassion towards ants, misquitos, spiders, mice, stinging insects, snakes.. the lot that shares our premises along with birds, cats and dogs. The principle is, " just as yourself, all creatures fear death and harassment so don't do to others what you don't want to happen in your life ".

Normally for Elephant safari at Udawalawe, the best time is in the evening.That's the time they all come out in groups to the lakes and water holes.Early morning s are the best time to see Leopard and Bears.But that's in Yala and Wilpattu park.Also full day Safaris are a waste of time as most animals are out only until about 9am and then again after 4pm as the rest of the day is very hot.(During this time they stay in the thick forest which we are unable to travel to)...

I'm surprised you didn't ride the elephants while you was in Sri Lanka, my friend and his partner loved the experience riding and then washing the elephants with there human handlers in a flowing stream in the mountains.

Was that a krait? They are incredibly deadly, right up there with the black mamba. One bite and you're dead. It sure looks like the Common Krait.

The last krait I met was in Singapore and it was only about 3 foot long. Luckily my father was there and dealt with it. This particular variety could apparently jump amazing distances - and yes, was deadly.

Kalu's hideaway must belong to the 1 and only Romesh Kaluwitharana or the little Kalu. What a dynamite he was. He and Sanath Jayasuriya another Lankan cricketing legend wreaked havoc on opposition bowlers in the Cricket World Cup 1996. Of course Americans won't have a clue about that coz USA doesn't play cricket !
