We're thrilled to share the most recent completion of another Revive2Thrive project! In this edition of Tour of Progress 2.0, Commissioner Garcia takes you on a tour to demonstrate our efforts to reduce flooding in partnership with the Harris County Flood Control District. One of our key projects in this endeavor is completing the South Shaver Stormwater Detention Basin project.
This achievement is a significant milestone for the community, as it is crucial in preventing flooding in the area. Before its construction, the surrounding neighborhoods were frequently impacted by severe flooding, causing distress for residents. However, with the new basin's impressive capacity of 136 million gallons, over 449 homes in the area can now breathe easier. The $9.9 million upgrades, including a new access road to Milstead Middle School from Hartsook Street, will better prepare the community for future rain events. We're also excited about the future addition of a scenic hike and bike trail around the basin, enhancing community connections and providing leisure opportunities for families to enjoy.
