I hadn't realised how beautiful old Redditch town was! So much heart and history, bustling and vibrant. How very sad.

Oh wow i can/thank you enough Sydney for taking and including this video, i was born in The Oaklands in Bromsgrove Road in 1934 which my father sold to the Labour & Trades club in 1949,, lived in Redditch until my service in the RAF in 1952 this brings back so so many memories of what Redditch was a small market town. my Father had hid business in Evesham St as a coal/coke and Farm foods merchant, in his early days he had horses and carts delivering coal all over the area. Magical!!

The heart and soul was really ripped out of Redditch - the town had character then Imagine how many houses and shops were destroyed to make way for the Kingfisher Centre, where empty shops lie as people can’t afford the overpriced rents and every shop that is there is the same as the next town up. Redditch Development Corporation and the Government of the time made a bad decision

Never thought that I would miss the old town so much even after living in Australia for some 40 years. I believer that the film showed Easemore Road from where my family and I left for Australia. We did make a trip back some 30 years ago. The town had changed and so we sorrowfully came away after looking at our last home just up from Lady Harriet's. My memories hurt at times when I sit back in my arm chair and let my mind takes me to that to which no longer exists.

I lived in Redditch around 1967. I remember the cinema called the Danilo and I remember a disco near the bus station. I'm not 100% sure if it's still there but I lived in Rendlesham Road. I also.worked in a pro pack factory. I know its changed but I would love to go back even for a few memories. I understand that the Danilo is now a Weatherspoons?

I lived in Redditch from 1956-1970 and remember it just as it is in the film. Very interesting, and of course unrecognisable now. Not sure the so called New Town did it any favours but has provided a lot of homes for people, employment, and still has some nice countryside. Glad Bridley Moor School has gone though! Awful memories of walking there from Webheath unlike the walk from Arrow Road to St Georges which I do remember fondly.

Good OLD Redditch. I loved it. The new town has no character in comparison with the old town. Those were the days - the good old days.

I was a van driver in those days taking Evening Mail and Sports Argus to newsagents all over the area. Good to see it again as it was before the bulldozers ruined it all. I lived in George Street for a couple of years before it was compulsory purchased to make way for car parking. Thanks for posting the vid.

Wow that lovely railway from. You could get a train to Lkndon back then without taking a 45 minute detour to New Street. That decision constrained redditch in every way possible.

the town of my childhood & just how I remember it before the New Town, Kingfishers Center & all the yo yo's & yam yam's moved in :-(

The original town centre was a simple crossroads . .church one side hospital the other . cinema just down the hill ..then along came the Kingfisher shopping centre . .and the old Redditch town became generic like thousands of towns, Redditch (if I remember ) was designated an 'overspill' town from the ever growing Birmingham . .

At 5.25 the building on the left is Redditch Youth Club attended by myself Mickey Bonham and the rest of the gang. John Bonham played here with the Band of Joy or possibly one of the other outfits in 1965-6

Great to see the real Redditch. Born here in 1946 in Melen Street. Would love to see the Toledo/Joan's Cafe on the corner of Melen Street and Curly Rogers motorcycles in Clive Road on film. So many happy memories of people and places in the old town.

The town centre certainly looked as though it had a lot more charm back in those days compared to what it's like now...weird seeing church green east and west before the pedestrianisation of that part of the town too place, and no ring road on the decent on unicorn hill or on the ascent into town from Enfield. Would love to have seen what the areas that were developed as part of the new town looked like before too, I imagine it just being a sleepy rural landscape...that said I think the development of these areas away from the centre has largely been a success. I don't think I've ever seen a town with a higher concentration of trees, so come spring everywhere just seems so green

Where's John Bonham's house?
@leroyholm90753 жыл бұрын
John & Mickey Bonham lived almost opposite me at Hunt End. I lived at 89 Enfield Road and their mother ran the local shop on the other side and further down. I am almost the same age as John & a year older than Mickey was and we all went to school on the same bus. They went to Wilton House Private School in the town and I went to St Lukes Church School (later known as Headless Cross Infants and Juniors). They later moved to Easemore Road and then to Studley. We all came back together when I went to Redditch College with Mickey (he was not known as Mick) in 1963. Shortly after we went to the same gigs at the Youth Club (John was playing) and gigs when John joined The Tim Rose Band.

Whilst at Headless Cross school we had the Infamous Headmaster ANSTIS, a maniac for discipline and applicator of violent physical punishment. He then left about my year three and unfortunately became the Headmaster of Lodge Farm Secondary School just before John joined! He hated John and told him he was destined to become a nobody.
