When you got to the hierophant/pope card in the piatnick deck and said "he looks like a walrus to me" I freaking lost it 🤣🤣🤣

6:36 UGH thank you. i'd seen the etteilla deck and it was driving me CRAZY not knowing what system it was based off of. you showing this book led me to just do a search for "ETTEILLA" which then brought me to wiki where i learned that's a pseudonym of jean-baptiste allietta WHO wrote some tarot books on the correspondences betweent tarot, astrology, and the four classical elements and four humors ANNNND published his own deck that *differs significantly from the classic tarots such as the tarot de marseille in both structure and card designations.* so TLDR; that cool deck i saw on amazon is its own system. MAN i wish you had timestamps/sections for the decks so you could see them in the timeline as you hover and also be able to jump around. this is an INCREDIBLE video and some amazing decks. (i don't know if you can do it after the fact or not. but i would even be worth posting a new vid with the update, and also get some more love for the hard work you put in.) i'm literally painstakingly noting all the times and putting them in a bookmark i have of this ved........... i'm trying to reference a bunch of decks and they make it so hard to just SEE IMAGES so you can evaluate what deck works for you. :/ so far i seem to really favor the facsimilies. right now leaning toward the tarot vieville.... the faces' rendering is important to me, as an artist, and i like the almost charcoal smudgey look. the colors get away from the red/yellow/blue which i find kind of grates on me and i like these ones where they tone it down. just not a fan of all the primary colors together. BUT, in my research, this deck is read a little different, as well as having the different Star, Moon, Sun... and the weird horses on the chariot with faces. but idk the pre-dating the marseilles is interesting to me as well. the deck that even got me interested in the marseilles system (i'm a RWS reader) is the very differently colored marseilles deck from vieux monde on amazon. it's like a deep gold, and a dark blue/ or teal sort of color. it's all muted and that plus the clean line images/symbols was really fascinating. but i wanted to educate myself first and see the diffs in decks.... and also see which ones have all the details needed for reading the pips. (in RWS decks it gets me so aggravated when you get artists reimagining the deck in their style *but they leave important things out* like you can't even recognize the card even if you are a seasoned reader. so i wanted to avoid that trap.) i wish seller sites or some info sites would just show the whole deck. for some of the pips i heard there could be positive and negative cards and some have embellishments that show that like flower in bloom vs a bud. the only reason i knew about that was a SINGLE channel going over "decks for beginners". 78 huertes might have been the name. but even with having all the right bits and bobs, you have to make sure the style feels right to you. uuuuuuuuughhhhhh i'm trying so hard here. even the decks he showed, i kind of liked the fournier but then it's not so available. did find it on amazon france but idk what shipping costs would be like. and i do agree piatnik looks pretty good... (but im also trying to find a deck that doesn't have circle b00bs. it just.... feels kind of annoying. again, anatomy, artist, blah. i do love the blue lobster tho.) so.... trying to find a deck that i can like MOST of. faces/expressions, color palate, how certain cards are rendered (the d3ath card is interesting on vieville. but on gassman, piatnik, rochias, burdell, those all seem based on the same one and i don't care for it.). anyway long msg. but basically your walkthrough of these decks is invaluable and i wish you had the timestamps to make it even MORE of a resource, and i believe it will help a lot of people if they can stumble across your vid. sometimes, in trying to save time, i will glance over a timeline to get an idea of the content of a vid (when im in research mode.) and try a section i'm most interested in to gauge the voice/presentation/info. i actually am never going to forget you talking about the blue lobster and the crosseyed guy. (the pope, was it?) or the face in the belly of the world. that is all the piatnik deck, i believe. but i instantly hear you talking about it when i see those cards. i think one of the MOST interesting cards in the gassman tarot deck is the hangedMan who is facing sideways. each deck has its quirks, just like with people. just gotta find the one who's most INTERSTING cards outwieigh the least interesting or the booboo faces or whatever else you aren't keen on.

Hi Joneki, I would love to see how you pair marseille and Oracle. If you are ever called to do that I’d love it. I’m recently reading more w Marseille than RWS and find it a bit difficult finding oracles that would visually and semantically pair well w TdM decks. Thank you for the video on your collection.

Hi and thanks for your videos! Just for information: I had the same doubt and have checked, so I can say with certainty that the current editions of the TdM Piatnik have the QR code on the bottom of the box and come without an instruction booklet (downloadable from the official website). Questionable choice, but then both your copies should be genuine (the one without the QR code is simply an older edition). - Cheers

i hate when companies do that. instruction manuals and the little booklets for tarot. like you want to go online every time. >: ( i got an instapot and they cheaped out. and online there isn't even just ONE SET of suggested basic recipes so now you have indecision and doubt in the mix. and for a deck.... i like to have the reference and evaluate the reading when messing with a new deck. sometimes the books are good, sometimes not great. but *it would be nice* you know? guess i'll hold off on piatnik for a first. maybe go vieville even thought it's not totally TDS. or the neat subdued colored deck from vieux monde................ thanks for mentioning the booklet thing! i want more time to research books i might get. it's nice to have the short and sweet version tho for a jumpstart.

Great video! I like the Tower/Lightning and Star/Astronomer, too. Patrick Valenza put those in his TdM. I confess, I'm a Spanish Tarot vintage fan. I like the Tarot Classic (US Games) as well, for vivid colors. It's supposedly based on the Burdel.

Great collection. I also like the Piatnik deck. Love the moon card. I have never seen another like it. There are no drops in the sky. To me it conveys a kind of eerie silence. I love the Tarot des Ambiguites. I have never seen it before and I am going to get it. Some of those images jumped out at me. Thank you.

Great video-- I love seeing Marseilles people have! Such an interesting collection! I too have the Peterson Noblet and the gorgeous Sullivan Hismans' Dodal. I have a fond place in my heart for the Noblet reconstruction by Flornoy, as counterpart and contrast to the Peterson Noblet facsimile. Your comments on the Yves Renaud facsimiles were interesting! I love my Burdel, but I don't have the Claude Rochias. I really like those Rochias pips! Hooray for the Leonora Carrington deck! Getting it spurred me to look up all her work, and look up more about women Surrealists and the role of magic, games, and the occult in the movement overall. The comparisons of the Vieville are so interesting! I need to get the Artisan Tarot version. I have the Flornoy reconstruction of the Vieville majors, and, I think, a different facsimile than yours. Thanks for such a lovely look at your cards!

Hi, Janaki. Wonderful collection. Thanks for sharing. I love TdM, too. My collection is not as extensive as yours. I love the 2 Polish decks you showed towards the end. I think I've got to check out the Talisman Tarot. One deck that I do own is the Le Tarot de L' Etoile Cachee. I just got that one. It's a contemporary take - silver characters on black background. My gosh - it's breathtaking. Just got it this week after seeing a walkthrough on KZbin. Anyway your enthusiasm is contagious. Thanks, again.

Thank you for this wonderful TdM collection video Janaki! Love the detail you go into. I LOVE the messy TdM's and prefer them over the clean ones. I have several from Yves Reynaud, the beautiful Gassman as well as the fantabulous Jacob Joerger, both of which are Bescanson style decks, I would love to send you the Artisan Noblet if you would give me your snail mail address. I get so much out of watching your videos and listening to your precise and enthusiastic comments about tarot. I don't want the Artisan Noblet but since you have an inch to complete your TdM collection, I'd love to offer that to you. xx

A very interesting collection~! I just watched Kasia's this week... I am holding off learning TDMarseille as I'm about to move across country in a few months and I know I just shouldn't waste time reading (and inevitably buying more decks/books) just to pack and store them again. But that Spanish Tarot - man! The colouring makes such a HUGE difference compared to the brusque primary colouring in so many others. The El tarot was super exciting also - I really do like the more considered secondary colours used and those pinks. Then the Piatnik Wein ... be still my beating heart! Good god some vintage decks really capture me. I would be SO curious as to your view on the #only10massmarket decks after watching this. You have such an esoteric and rare collection, I'd love to see your preferences with a more accessible limitation placed on it. Great to see another video of yuors pop up - it always makes my day! Have a great weekend from Oz!

Eteilla makes for pretty poor reading even in the original French - writing was not his forte :D As difficult if not more so to read for French speakers as Waite is for many English speakers for example. On top of the difficulties of his writing style, he was also an early master of cross-marketing, often referring to his other books for fuller explanations of several points.

You seem so nice and have a great way about you. And I enjoyed this video a lot! I’m new to the TDM! But may I offer a very respectful video suggestion? If you’re going to continue making VIDEOS, you may want to pay some ATTENTION to the inflection of your VOICE? It goes UP at the end of every single PHRASE? as though you’re asking a QUESTION? And after a WHILE, it makes it challenging to pay ATTENTION TO? Please go back and listen to this video to hear what I’m saying. I think you’ll hear it too and maybe will give you some pause as to how you’re presenting your info in public speaking. I hope this came across ok. I meant it very respectfully and suggestively. Thanks!
