Go to www.DesMoinesRegister.com/BuddyHolly to see much more. Jeff Nicholas, Surf Ballroom & Museum President, takes you on a brief tour of the historic ballroom where Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens played their final concert before they died in a plane crash in 1959.

I got to see Buddy Holly and the Crickets live in person in Tulsa,Ok.1957.I was probably too young to fully appreciate this bands power and talent. The audience cheered loudly when they took the stage because he already had some big hits nationally and was nationally famous. All I remember was the power and hard driving rhythm from his band and the appreciation from the audience..

Great video Visited here twice, loved it.Best of singers performed here. Felt like Buddy Holly, Rich Valens and Big Bopper looking down from Heaven. Also make time to visit the crash site in the very sad, lonely, windy, ice cold cornfields. R.I.P. you will never be forgotten

Got to see a show there May 2, 2018. Had a great time. Staff is very kind and the prices for drinks etc were what they should be. The place was just a bright spot for the older generations 40 and above. Lots to see. Even more because there was more that has been added since this video was taken. There are affordable hotels in the area and I just found everyone in this little gem and clean little town so polite and nice. They all seemed to work together to make sure everyone had a great visit. And I didn't even mention the Lake and it's possibilities. And of course we have Buddy Holly and his legacy to explore. Thanks Clear Lake, I'll try to make it again!

I was passing through Clear Lake last October, (driving from New Hampshire) and stopped by for a few minutes. They had closed for the day, so I'll have to make a return trip one of these days. I'd love to see the interior and maybe catch a show.

A street named after Buddy. Cool! I think they have a street/road in Lubbock too which is named after Holly. The Buddy Holly Avenue or something.

It's an absolutely beautiful building. The people there are SO kind and inviting. No part of the building was off limits to my daughter and I the weekday in early 2012 that we visited. It was an absolutely wonderful experience. My then sixth grader did a very moving report in school the next week about the tragic events.

I just found this video. I've been to all 33 Tribute concerts at the Surf Ballroom . I started going in 1979. It's been called The Buddy Holly Tribute, The Winter Dance Party, Legendsfest, and The 50's In February. I wouldn't know how to miss it each each year: Great Music and Great people. If you're in Clear lake, you should visit the Surf Ballroom. It's one of the truly historic music venues.

Is there a video tape or DVD available of the 50 Winters tour in 2009? I was unable to make it there and would love to have it. Also, was the coin toss between Waylon Jennings and Ritchie Valens or Tommie Allsup and Ritchie back in Feb., 59'? Thank you and God bless.

Some even say that this building is haunted and that every February third a plane is heard at midnight but there's no one around.

It's so sad because they could of formed a really good band and become a big team if they made it back.
