Thank you Phil for showing us the top floor. You have quite a bit of work to do, but hey it’s your Chateau to do whenever you want. Keep on keeping on ❤

I think if you invested in that purple room and turned it into a communal bathroom with toilet it would let you restore the hallway. As long as the price reflects the fact there is a shared loo im happy renting a room without one and that purple room is on the smaller side for a bedroom
@travelmom30312 жыл бұрын
I agree. For a family group or a hen party/stag do, that would not put me off. The bathtub in the room, if done properly, would be fine--romantic even.
@claudialandgraf44502 жыл бұрын
Great idea: especially if there is a men and a womens loo. You can't expect that such an old building fits all modern standards in the same way as a newly built building. As long as the shower is nice and your own. When the hallway toiletts are gone this will make such a difference regarding the light and flow/ feel of this floor.
@sarahburgess-hamlett212 Жыл бұрын
I would look at converting the whole lot into a family/group gite, using one of the bedrooms as a lounge with kitchen, the making one lovely full bathroom, and the purple room as a separate toilet with two cubicles with double sink, leaving the partial en-suites, if you are going with family and friends you won’t be that paticular about sharing toilets. Plus it’s an income stream which afford you less work as only bed changing and cleaning, not B&B and lots of hosting skills

Well, I've seen ruined chateaux and this isn't one. Maybe needs a bit of work in the roof and ceilings - who knows what's going on in there - but it isn't ruined I don't think. Plus a little relocation of walls, loos, baths etc, not to mention the downpipes. Still, a lot of work, no doubt expensive too. Thank you for confiding in us and best wishes for the next few months

Nice tour of the top floor. Most of the rooms look in good shape. Just some of the ceiling water damage looks a bit dicey. More projects for you Philip. But these château always have issues. You have to have patience and deep pockets. Enjoy your weekend and hello to Angelina.
@IreneSonni2 жыл бұрын
I think that you should definately scrap the toilets in the hall! You could have 2 large bathrooms on the upper floor each with a luxury bedroom suite on one side, with connecting door opening up between them, and a sitting room with tv on the other side of the bedroom suite, with space for a kettle and cups for either coffee or tea and water, also with connecting door. A smaller room, like the purple one, could be a large linen closet to store everything you need to clean and stock the rooms, with a washer and dryer. That will save lots of trips going up and down the stairs.

It may not be perfect but for me that is part of the charm. At my age I’m far from perfect lol. I would still be happy to stay in one of those rooms. 🥰

I love your Chateau. While large , it is not overwhelming. The setting is lovely. You have had weather issues to contend with. I understand that you must prioritize. With any property , there is always much to be done. So much maintenance you and Angelina have to do daily is not filmed , but I can just imagine. God bless you both. 🙏 Your attitude is great.

Have you considered grinder toilets that hook into a regular 1 inch waste pipe . No waste pipe needed. They are more expensive to buy but you save on the plumbing needed to install. You can run them into the same waste line as the sink.

I have stayed in B&Bs that had communal bathrooms, but they were very nice and clean, so it did not bother me. You can convert one of the bedrooms into a nice communal bathroom with a nice large bath tub to attract people to use it and also a smaller toilet room in case the other is occupied. In any case those claustrophobic toilets from the hallway have to go. No one likes to take a shit in an uncomfortable space. Also to note that the loft was probably the servant's quarters in the old days of the chateau. The bedrooms seem quite small and undecorated so the entire floor must have been for staff. It is still a mystery to me why these old mansions never had bathrooms (toilets) inside when they were built. Did people really enjoy going outside in an outhouse in the dead of winter?? Good job so far Phil!

Good morning Philip & Angelina, never mind Philip, a home's chores are never done. There is always something that needs painting or renovating, and believe me it all takes time. You can be like a steam locomotive and keep going full steam ahead and be done within a year or two, but remember there is also the financial side to cover. The chateaux is beautiful, admittedly there is still much work to be done, especially changing that passage and just to removed the toilets completely where possible. Wishing you all the best, take one day at a time, but make it worth it. Kind regards.

I think the solution is to turn the upstairs into a couple of grand suites. Turn the third room into two lovely bathrooms, and turn the first two rooms into a single suite served by one bathroom, and the end wing of the house into a suite served by the other bathroom. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot that would have to change other than plumbing and adding a few new doorways. Having the nice wide hallway back would really transform the entire second floor into a place people would love to spend time in.

Seeing the number 11 on one of the doors made me think that it would be nice if instead of numbers you used local flowers, or birds or plant names. Not sure of the cost but maybe a local artist could come up with something carved or a painted plaque. I'm fairly sure I remember you saying that it was never the intention to have a bed and breakfast but still I nice local touch would really look nice on the doors. Maybe flowers on one floor and birds on another. Just a thought.

Phil with the leaking chimneys you will have to bite the bullet take a angle grinder to them make a groove then lead flash them to the roof. I had similar problem after having cowboy builders in Devon. Had to do all 4 chimneys after water leaking into rooms! Thanks for the tour of top floor interesting content. Angelina very good at upholstering.
@ChateauLife2 жыл бұрын
Yeah sadly I know lead flashing will be the only decent solution but I should point and render the chimney as well so that’s all looking like a spring job now unless we get a week or two of good weather

Could be a lot worse. Though not up to code, I feel confident that most could be used if really needed. The hall toilet is weird but a simple bulb would fix the light issue. Then remove that weirdness when you get to it.

Be certain to get professionals to mitigate/treat all of the items in the purple storage room for black mold once the roof and ceiling damage are repaired. Anything soft like carpet, curtains, mattresses, etc., will need to get thrown away.

I do not understand why they put baths in the bedrooms. It can make the bedroom feel damp. It would be better to use the space to build a small room for a toilet & wash basin in each bedroom. It does not matter so much if the bath is down the hall.

Why don’t you rent those rooms out to college students, or backpackers? You would meet a lot of great young people, have a lot of laughs, and have some income coming in! I would put them to use, even at $30 to $$50 a night, depending on the demand and local AirBnB rates! Or better yet, sponsor a Ukrainian family to come live there on the top floor! The rooms are not that bad mate! Cheers!
