Nice review! I’ve been seeing their ads a lot lately, but since I already have my OG TourBox, I wasn’t sure if I should upgrade… Well, thanks to you, I just placed my order! 😂

I'm so shortcut-pilled that I didn't even hesitate and bought one with my spare Christmas job money. Can't wait until it arrives.

Oh man this makes so much sense ! I love artstudio pro, but having to click every menu to change a brush, layer or settings, is a big turn off. So much that I use it for sketching just a bit on the couch and nothing else. Now with this you can have a process let's say almost like a photoshop one, but everywhere. Like you said, desktop experience.

Im enjoying it as well. The new Elite Plus is perfect for the iPad. It's very good for desktop as well BUT... It's hard to break the many years of keyboard workflow habits i have. With that said, I do very much like the Tourbox Elite Plus and I'm using on my Cintiq Pro 27 right now... along side my keyboard.

hate that I got a moonlander to work for both my pc and ipad when this thing was in the horizon, now I'm getting FOMO cuz I really don't want to go through the muscle memory learning stage again 😭😭

Isnt that the truth. It like wanting to get a new mouse or game controller with more buttons I got an elite pro Xbox controller and I still haven’t mapped stuff onto the extra buttons lol But I was like that with a Wacom tablet, the paper pro one, I dont want to learn another any time soon 😂

well I will say give it a shot, to me the learning curve is alright.. can't remember exactly, probably took me about 3-4 days for the muscle memory to kick in? I’ve been using my old tourbox mostly for video editing, and it’s been great. Now that it supports iPad, I think I’m gonna use it for simple drawing too

@@johnperry8127 the issue is mostly the unlearning of old muscle memory! I went from a keyboard to razer tartarus, then from there to the halfmoon for extra buttons/nicer feel, and now considering the tourbox for bluetooth/smaller footprint... Those first few weeks are the most painful ones, gotta think about ever keystroke, don't know if I got it in me right now!

ordered mine in December waiting for it to be delivered,been using the neo and it really does help speed up the workflow. Even tho I dont have an ipad,I got this just in case I ever do as when the tourbox originally launched I was not a fan of the cable system.

Nothing on the fact that it works on electric batteries ? it doesn't charge with cable.

Use rechargeables - I prefer that option because I can quickly swap them out instead of having to plug it in to recharge it - and I find it lasts a decent amount of time on a single charge (note that I have haptics off, that probably helps as well)

Still not even close to 60$ logitech bluetooth keyboard... I dont understand how people prefer that thing with ~10 shortcuts to a regular keyboard that is cheaper and has much more functions. And muscle memory seems like a weak argument, because you already have it with keyboards, since you use keyboards beyond creating art xD
@thatmfdiego
@thatmfdiego Күн бұрын
This is mainly ignorance of what the product does, but I'll bite. Firstly, it's not 10 shortcuts, you can use combo keys and double presses to make as many as you need. Secondly, one of the big benefits of using a macro pad to a keyboard is the footprint which allows for far more comfort than having an awkwardly sized keyboard tilted next to your tablet. Having a macro pad like this also helps to speed up your workflow since there's no need to look down to actuate any shortcuts you need. Now, if you're a hobbyist, this might not be worth it to you, and in that case, by all means, use the keyboard. I work doing art, so the speed and ergonomics are a must-have for me. I have the cheap logitech keyboard, it doesn't compare to ANY of the shortcut pads I've used. Truly, unless the only shortcut you use is ctrl + z, a keyboard is really clunky
@maxspoko
@maxspoko Күн бұрын
@@thatmfdiego Your first argument doesn't really stand. I can't see how you can make more than maybe 6 combo keys that are actually easy to use without looking, i assume you cant combine scrolling+press other button at the same time. Also how many programs support more that one double tap? Not Ps, not CSP, not blender or any other 3d software. Talking about not looking at the keyboard. If you still have to look at your keyboard while drawing is kinda speaks for how "pro" you are. And the need to having it in front of you... Most of the artists that i work with now and worked before have their keyboards on the side or partially covered by a tablet. That thing is especially useless if you constantly jump between programs. You literally wouldn't have time and patience to adjust shortcut to all of them. I really want to look how would you use that thing having open After Effects or Premiere while making adjustments in Photoshop or CSP. Also working in blender with nearly infinite amount of shortcuts Most of the artists in the industry use keyboards and amateur people buy things that they think will make them a better artist
@AdamDuffArt
@AdamDuffArt Күн бұрын
Speed and ergonomics is one big plus. Once you get accustomed to whipping through brush sizes and navigating menus, adjustment layers etc.. a keyboard (which is still very viable) feels clunky and slow imo

@@maxspoko I'm used to keyboard use and it's shortcut, but I'm left handed. So when I pick up a pencil, a regular keyboard is not too much ergonomic or practical for the right hand (try it, it's really bad). And I don't want to change all the defaults shortcuts all softwares use, it's counterintuitive. So for this case, the tourbox is really something that's great for me ! And yeah, you can actually map as many shortcut you need. You can combine buttons,that's a shortcut. Double tap a button, that's a shortcut. You can do one button + any of the scroll wheel, and that's also a shortcut. You only need to configure it for the software one time. Then it changes automatically between apps when you do. Every person got his/her personal workflow, maybe you don't need it, but a lot of people find it really useful.

@@maxspoko most pro artists I know use shortcut pads, and the rest don't use them because they like the muscle memory they've built with a keyboard, not to mention that the use of them is relatively new. You really can't fathom how a device that is designed to be tactile and distinct for the purpose of muscle memory would be used with... muscle memory? Really? To answer your question, yes, you can combine multi presses with anything, scroll + button or whatever your heart desires (see the first sentence in my original reply). What do you mean what programs support double tap? The software of the device is what controls the input, none of the programs have to interface with a double tap, they just see the signal sent by the device which will just be whatever you bind to a double tap. There's no limit to how many you can have. I think the issue is just that you're tech illiterate and offloading that lack of understanding onto the product. The pad doesn't claim to make you a better artist, it objectively speeds up your workflow because you can offload the most used shortcuts to single keystrokes and more "convoluted" actions to quick shortcuts while chopping off the entire half of the keyboard you're not using to allow for proper ergonomics. Yes, you can place your keyboard angled behind a screen tablet, but not all screen tablets will have the room to let you do that, what about a lot of ipad stands, or what I use, an Intuos? Regardless of this, your ergonomics are not going to be great if one of your sides has to be reaching forward further than the other for 8+ hours a day instead of being neutral, and will flat out be uncomfortable if you don't have the space or work with a non-screen tablet. Now, if you are a power user and for some reason need to use tons of shortcuts and programs at the same time, there's other pads out there you can buy. I use the ZSA Moonlander (halfmoon), which makes it EXTREMELY easy to add different presets for any software I want to use, and you can switch between these layers by toggling, or even using keys as a way to temporarily activate them. You can still use several programs on the tourbox just fine, but given that you're adamant that you "need" a keyboard, a moonlander will give you a literal infinite amount of shortcuts. I didn't have to look at my keyboard while drawing outside of double checking larger key combos, but insinuating that makes me not "pro" is silly. The amount of shortcuts that I can fit into the keyboard that are easily reachable are VERY limited and just flat-out slower than what I can get from a shortcut pad. Without moving my hand a centimeter and/or looking at my keyboard I can create a new layer, paint on it, create a group, merge it, duplicate, delete it and I can do that at the very least 2-3x faster than I could on a keyboard all while also being able to access EVERY tool (Pencil, Brush, Eraser, Smudge, Lasso, Color Picker from layer/global, rotate canvas, brush size, and many more). It's just not a contest at all. I don't care how many years you've used shortcuts, I can do everything that you do in CSP faster and more effectively, because the same muscle memory that you've built for a keyboard I've built for a device that is optimized to house all shortcuts I need in my individual process for both painting and video editing. As I said, you being incapable of conceptualizing how exchanging awkward multi key combos for single keystrokes saves you a substantial amount of time shows your hand. You're unserious. $300 for the time a pad saves is an easy decision for any working artist, it's only once you get into the hobbyists that it makes sense to stick with the bare bones. If the price of the pad makes your eyes water, grab the stylus brother cuz you clearly haven't made it as an artist yet.
