Which reminded me of the President in Ghana, a few years ago he made a public apology to Ghana on behalf of the ancestors who sold their own people to the slave trade. Over in the West, where my Naija husband and I live, the African Americans do not know that it was the ancestors who sold their relatives to the international Slave Trade. They thought that the White man (oyinbo) came and stole the people away from their homeland. *What would make an incredible documentary* ....(award winning film?), would be the coverage of the history of all coastal areas of African countries that took part in this same ritual. It would be mind blowing. Would generate a global buzz.....conversation of incredible magnitude.

I admire some of the ideas put in place here. I really want to see a Nigeria with many decent housing units someday and these seem to be of global standard. However, as someone practicing architecture in the US with a passion for housing, I worry about the design concept and materials used especially for something tagged "affordable". Nigerians like the element of surprise in our culture and lifestyle that come with revealing some parts of the house while hiding others. An open-plan concept is borrowed and often doesn't agree with that. Materials like marble and permanent fixtures like the wardrobes and cabinets displayed remove these units from the unaffordable housing range. $76,000 is a lot even if you had 2 years to pay in installments. That amount can already get you started on the conversation of decent housing in the Midwest US. Finally, I struggle with the idea of listening to a RE developer market to Nigerians in dollars rather than the naira. When you mention Dangote, you seem to have a target market in mind. But hey these are just observations from watching and I'm open to learning more about this. Thanks, Tayo for the interesting videos you post on here!!

Did You say $76,000 can get one a better housing in Midwest in the United States?. It better be Midwest Bcos $76,000 as far as I am concerned can't get anything better than that house in America.
@tosinedele2 жыл бұрын
@@Danorous I meant to type that $76k can get you started on that conversation in the US. My point is the currency values are not even on par right now. It seems unfair to use that cost on Nigerians and say it is affordable. I guess, affordable for who?
@sheriffola2 жыл бұрын
You can get 3 bedroom condos/apartment/townhomes in Dallas, TX or Houston, TX for the mentioned $152k. What I would like to see is 5 year mortgages, 2 years is pretty short. $70-90k for a new, spacious home in the suburbs seems reasonable, though I have no experience with Nigerian standards of living. To compare, such new developments in Pennsylvania would cost at least $120k in the poor areas and $200-500k in the more affluent area of closer to Philly or Pittsburgh. In Eastern Europe, which has standards of living closer to Nigeria, new apartments being built cost $80-120k for 40-50 square meters. A home like the one shown above would be around $200-300k depending on the suburb. In much of Eastern Europe, but particularly Lithuania, real estate has become a neofeudal system where the wealthy, affluent diaspora and banks park their money while the working class struggle to get a 30 year mortgage for 40 square meters.
