From someone with an induction stove: The heat is generated in the pot, not the stove itself. Electricity is transferred via a coil, similar to wireless charging. The supposed advantage is that the stovetop itself stays sorta cold and is safe to touch, although I don’t plan on trying that out myself. Plus, it heats up/boils water a LOT faster.

Mikey, the short answer is: Induction cooking heats the cookware through electromagnets. So, the cooktop doesn't get hot. Just the cookware. There's more to it. However, that's the quick version.
@matthewsnyder773 жыл бұрын
And you don't need 'special' pots and pans. Any conductive metal cookware will do: stainless, cast iron, carbon steel, etc.
@n7hotsauce2993 жыл бұрын
The cooktop will get hot but not from its own power. The heated cookware will heat up the cooktop just as hot through conduction. The whole design was a sales gimick that is flawed. Put that technology into a pan, now that's innovation.
@millionsparks963 жыл бұрын
@@n7hotsauce299 the cook top never gets as hot as an electric stove top. And cools way faster. It also doesn't get hot if there's no pots on top, so a lot safer for kids!

@topsen17023 жыл бұрын
Unwanted knowledge drop: Induction actually uses the magnets to only heat up the part where the pot stands on and not the whole area. Meaning you can put a small pot on the big plate and it only heats up the pot. Also if theres no pot on there, you can literally leave the stove on and it wont heat up.
@BatCountryAdventures3 жыл бұрын
May I just add: It's the pot material itself that heats up because of the magnetic field. No heat is produced by the cooking surface at all.
@CreepyBlackDude3 жыл бұрын
Also, in order for it to work, you have to have cookware that can hold a magnetic charge. Cast iron cookware works. Stainless steel may or may not work depending on the metals used (example, if it has a lot of nickel in it, it won't work). Things like that. Nowadays they tell you on the box whether it will work with an induction top, but just be aware that not everything will work.

Thanks, guys!
@ghostfather13903 жыл бұрын
this drastically changes how you are able to cook on the stove, some techniques become nearly impossible, anything requiring removing the pan, like flipping a pancake or fried rice, immediately stops all heat it seems good-ish if you have small children around, but I suspect that most serious home cooks still prefer gas, hence the hybrid gas/induction stoves that I have seen

"Induction cooking uses electric currents to directly heat pots and pans through magnetic induction. Instead of using thermal conduction (a gas or electric element transferring heat from a burner to a pot or pan), induction heats the cooking vessel itself almost instantly." (Frigidaire). My recollection when I bought an induction cooktop was being told that magnets are vibrating the pots and pans, that make the pans heat up. Because thermal heat is not used, the cooking surface remains cleaner and easier to clean spills, not baked on. Love your channels, Enes :)

8:45 The difference between traditional electric and induction stoves is that the electric ones physically heat up a metallic spiral/disc in the stove itself, and that heat then transfers through the top and into whatever sits above it. It loses a lot of heat (and thus electricity) from transferring the heat through multiple materials and air gaps between surfaces etc. An induction style stove uses electromagnets to pulse vibrate the pan that sits on top, so there is hardly any loss of heat or electricity in the transfer of energy between the stove and the pan/kettle/whatever. The electromagnetic pulse magnetically vibrates the metal of the object that sits on top of it - with limited range of course. This is also why they can work both efficiently, and also very quickly, as there is no transition heat loss and the energy goes directly into the pan/kettle itself and heats it from within. Just note that the pan/kettle has to be rated for induction, else it will not work. Induction style stoves are very common in Europe even in common houses/apartments, you can get them for quite cheap these days and they're more or less taking over the entire market of new built kitchens no matter the price range. IKEA has dozens of different variations and sizes for example, and then there are more expensive brands too of course.

Induction does only make the pan hot. You can touch the induction after you cooked. Water is basically instant boiling. It's amazing. Here in Switzerland it's standart.

Enes, why didn’t you talk about the huge power line you have in the front yard.
@jasoncorreia75083 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was wondering about that too. Not that I'd ever be able to afford this but if I could that would bug me.
@jasoncharboneau39183 жыл бұрын
@@jasoncorreia7508 yes very true. But the more I think about it, the power line doesn’t affect the view from the backyard too much.

I dont think he likes to talk about negative features of the houses he tours. Like the one house that had all the houses behind it and just a sliver of ocean view.

Better than having it run through the backyard/view.
