Curious what €1300/ month gets you in Rotterdam, The Netherlands? Today we're touring a one bedroom apartment on the the 3rd floor of Lee Towers in Galvanistraat. This property is available for rent by Holland2Stay. You can find the full details of the listing here: bit.ly/3mpisCb
The house tours are likely to be a part of the series over at Making it in Holland. All you need to do is give this video a thumbs up, so we know to make more of this type of content in the future. If we get at least 100 likes, then we'll go ahead & find other exciting houses to tour for you across the country.
The housing market is a very interesting subject of study in the Netherlands. As a former architect, I really enjoyed touring this property and look at it from both a design & sales perspective. I hope you enjoyed it too!

Its not budget when it takes 60% of your income a month. But what can I say, when here in Portugal it costs the same, but the minimum wage is 750 and everybody is leaving the country lol ( 1200 a T1 in Lisbon, minimum wage = HOMELESS ).

This is a great video idea series and also great choices of apartments. £1300 for this kind of apartment would be impossible in London. Very useful also for expats looking for houses so we can have a better idea of what we could find in the Netlherlands and also who to contact. Looking forward to seeing more of these videos. Housing is my main concern one I am ready to move.

This is such a great series! I'm personally looking at Amstelveen and it does seem that there are VERY few options below 1000 eur. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos, super informative 👏

I’m glad you’re enjoying these series. Amstelveen is also really great. But unfortunately finding something under 1000 euros that’s fully private to you and not shared is a big challenge. I hope to find some options like that and can tour them in the coming days for you.

Amstelveen is such a quiet, peacefull and really good located city. I've lived there around Westwijk for almost 2 years and it was great. Connection to Schiphol Airport and central of Amsterdam is a big plus.

@@Exorcistt94 thank you so much for sharing this! I had no idea about these details, I just know it has quite a big Asian community (and a Korean school) and since my husband is Korean I wanted to keep our family close to something familiar!

@@arashka100 I lived at Korianderlaan 1187 EE and I heard Japanese quiet often (maybe because there is Canon and Brother HQ few streets away) not sure how Korean community is prospering there, but I pictured this area as really nice, diversified (fair amount of expats) neighborhood for having kids. Unfortunately rental prices tend to be high, since it's Amsterdam suburbs. If I would come back to Netherlands, I wish it could be Amstelveen, but it's expensive if you like spacious apartments and you are a single :s Powodzenia :)

To my mind this a pretty realistic appartment for a couple where both are highly skilled professionals. Taking the location into consideration and that it's Rotterdam (not a middle of nowhere), 65 m2 for the price is not impossible. I am too frugal to pay it 😉 What could make this appartment a bit more comfortable would be two toilets, the 2nd included in the bathroom.
@MakingitinHolland
@MakingitinHolland 3 жыл бұрын
For a completely new apartment, it’s decent. And unfortunately with the toilet situation, it’s a common Dutch thing not to have a toilet in the shower. Houses that do have that tend to be seen as luxuries in a way. This is something I’ve always found very funny. Just put the freaking extra toilet in. 🤣
@marias.3604
@marias.3604 3 жыл бұрын
@@MakingitinHolland in Germany the toilet rules of the game are different. 😊 You usually have one bathroom per flat, which contains both a toilet and a shower/ bathtub. Some bigger flats will have a guest toilet in addition .

It’s still quite nice! But 1300 euros per month is indeed not the cheapest. If you’re sharing it and your salary is around 2500-3000 euros/ month is nicely doable. I am hoping to tour some studios in different buildings in the coming period so let’s see how much they are. 😊

Maybe do some houses (not apartments) for sale tours... Wouldn't your commission be larger? It could be quite entertaining as well.

When looked at what's available in the market, it's actually not *too* expensive considering you live with someone else here. The Dutch housing market is unfortunately pretty pricey overall. Good point about the websites, I'm working on a handy guide for that which will hopefully be out in the next few weeks!

There's the tower of Erasmus Center for Entrepreneurship next door where you can get a co-working spot. Inside these towers, there's a common area on the ground floor which used to be a restaurant but since the pandemic it's kind of like a co-working space.

That is not very good for 2 people, unless you are a couple. I do love that the toilet is not in the same division as the shower, but, I dont see a window, that would be not god, for smells...But, if like to working friends (like my case) were to live there, one would turn the living room into a sleeping room and the other would sleep in the other room. Each one would have to cross their own privacy to go to the bathroom, cook, if with different schedules, they guy is sleeping in the living room, wakes up when the other guy is cooking breakfast, and the guy in the room, would wake up when the other guy would go to take a shower. It is pretty, but not very practical. I just love the big window, but, ANOTHER problem, if it is not darkened or mirrored in the outside, you would not feel right being around naked. Other then that, if I could live on my own and pay 1300, I would consider. Just by myself. But what am I talking about, I am still in Portugal in my parents basement and am 42 years old. (that is why I am moving there soon, already got job and place lined up).
