On this episode of LivinRvision, we take a private tour of one of the most haunted prisons in America that will give you the chills! It's the Mansfield Prison, also known as the Ohio State Reformatory. As you will see in the video, they had to open the gate when we arrived because they were still closed.
Located in Mansfield, Ohio, this late-19th-century building looks more like a grand hotel that once housed the rich and famous. Built between 1886 and 1910, the Ohio State Reformatory was once operated as a maximum-security prison.
This facility was seen in a number of films, TV shows and music videos but was made famous by the 1994 film, The Shawshank Redemption, when it was used for most scenes of the movie. This prison is also known as one of the most haunted prisons in the United States!
This prison saw thousands of prisoners during its operation between 1896 and 1986. Originally believed to be a humane prison where offenders could be rehabilitated, it quickly devolved into a place known for torture, abuse and murder. Inmates eventually filed a lawsuit describing its inhabitable conditions.
The ghosts of the violent and maltreated men from this prison are not easily silenced. Visitors and tour guides have been pushed and punched by unseen forces. As with other haunted locations, many claim to feel an inexplicable chill while on prison grounds.
Witnesses have heard cell doors slam and seen dark apparitions. Shaken tour guides swear they hear voices still to this day. Some say they hear a man and woman talking that is too faint to understand, to persistent to ignore and chilling to listeners who think they're alone.
Don’t let that scare you though, this historic prison has so much history and architecture that you will be glad you stopped for a visit…and if you don’t like to be in a place that is known to be haunted, then we hope you will enjoy this video instead. 😊🤓

Wow, what an awesome tour! If Mansfield Prison wasn't already on my bucket list of things to do and places to go when I come to America, it sure is now! I am very interested in history and I love the movie, but I am also sensitive to spirits. Also afraid of heights. Nothing will stop me from touring it, though; just got to save the money and book tickets to America!

Happy 4th of July weekend! Wow Brian your skills just keep growing. I saw the special effects, good job! I just read about a dozen of the comments. I had a very different reaction in watching. I was so sad, the 14 foot hole 🕳️ really got to me like OMG. I know these men broke the law, but that just goes beyond punishment!! A lot of horrific deaths in that prison. I just felt it as I watched. You two always take us where no other channel dares to go 🤣🤣. Hope you’ll be eating lots of Hamburgers and Hotdogs, don’t forget the Watermelon 🍉 seed spitting contest! It is fun to watch you guys go thru a very spooky spot. The prison is known as one of the scariest places. I have lived in Mansfield all my life but haven’t taken the tour only been there when there was special events. Now seeing this my husband says he will go with me to a tour but not one of the haunted tours. Love watching you guys.

Lol old “sparky” is what we called the execution chair. It is a great place to visit, really creepy.

I saw a orb in your video. When you enter the room with the sign on the door saying "do not close door" and there is a single chair in the room, well when you comment "hey dont go far" a second later an orb moves across the wall forming an arch over the chair lol. So glad you were protective of your wife and wanted her close lol, close to protect you I imagine hahaha, you two are so cute and funny. We had no idea about this place two years ago when we were staying at Kenissee Thousand Trails. we saw your video about a month ago and we were going to be staying at kennisee again and heading up towards Michigan so we went an hour out of the way so we could come here! We just took the tour today and we are watching your video again now!! Last week I snagged One of the last spots for this weekend, they are closed tomorrow, so we cut our trip short at Thousand Trails and found a harvest host 20 minutes from there. And actually a harvest host farm that you could buy BBQ from, Pay for electric and pay for an extra night stay! They are some of the nicest people and we got to hang out with them and their horses and cool dog last night! Worked out perfect because we went in for the 1030 behind the bars guided tour and left at 5 PM!!! We barely finished!! The place is incredible and the tour was fantastic!! Thank you guys again so much for doing this video!! I will be passing along the word to everyone I know to check this place out!!

Great video, loved how put in the clips of shawshank. While we were watching a storm came through and right when Brian was showing haunted part our power went out and blinked off and on like 5 times lol we were like WHAT? I worked at a maximum prison in PA for 10 years. A inmate died in cell and his call button would randomly go off while cell was empty. I also worked in a old psych hospital here in NC and it is definitely haunted. Great video, we love you ! Andrea and Will

You weren’t too far from my hometown of Canton, Ohio, when you were at the prison. When I worked for the Timken Company in Canton, I had to occasionally drive to their Bucyrus, Ohio, plant as part of my job. It was a straight shot west on route 30 through Mansfield.
