It should be emphasized to groups and individuals entering Australia that the quarantine laws are taken VERY SERIOUSLY, and visitors must be ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that any fruit, plant material or other item on the card MUST either be declared or simply not brought into the the country. Many other countries may not be as strict about enforcing it, but when entering Australia, Australian laws apply. If I were the leader of that group, I would have given a short but emphatic lecture before we had arrived. I'm a biologist/entomologist who has traveled quite extensively around the world, and I've seen a few instances regarding items in these videos that were forbidden but realistically couldn't cause a problem--however, the Australian interpretation of their laws is very strict and conservative, and this is what matters when entering that country. If one doesn't want to pay fines or face potential prosecution, then obedience of the local laws to the letter is required.

One time I was traveling with my family as a small child and my aunt came out to where we were. She brought us a gigantic basket of cherries from her backyard trees Cherries are awesome, the problem was that we were heading across the Canada/U.S. border the next day. When my dad ( her brother ) tried to explain to her that we couldn't take them and why, she got incredibly insulted and started yelling about how "nobody appreciated her."
