One of the most resplendent afternoons of the trip took place at The Golf House Club, Elie - 25 minutes from St. Andrews - where the group found perfect weather, a quirky, underrated golf course, and some interesting sock rules.

Played Elie in October of 2017 in the remnants of the first hurricane to hit Ireland in 50 years... Hit 2 iron 20 yards short from 195 on #3, then 6 iron 15 yards over from 260 on #7, variety was insane! Possibly the most enjoyable round of golf I've ever played. Great video highlighting an even better course!

We stayed in Anstruther for 2 days before we made the trek to St. Andrews. Great little town. The beer garden at the turn of the Inlet is pretty awesome. At low tide, you can walk from the beach, up to the Garden.

So glad that you Guys got to play Elie, the 3 hole stretch along the shore is pure golfing Heaven! And you got to eat Fish & Chips in Anstruther, they must be the Best in Scotland! But you really should have had a post-round Pint in the Ship Inn, next to the beach in Elie. Its the only place in the world where in the summer you can drink whilst watching them play a Cricket match on the Beach!!

After finishing the 10th, I had the urge to relieve myself and was thinking about running down to the shoreline. I brought up the thought to our English playing partners as to why there was no toilet on course. The gentleman pointed towards the waters edge and off I went. Low and behold there was a open aired concrete block in which you do your relief. Inside you use the accompanying water hose to tidy the place for the next person. Thanks John(?) the manager of Newcastle Beer, for saving me from a possible embarrassment with his wife in our group.

Why would any American go to Scotland with its over rated courses, poor access and lack of hospitality, when you can fly into Ireland, be treated like a lord, have the craic, play the best links courses on earth and drink far better whiskey?
