Temples and shrines are different. Shrines with torii gates are Shinto. Temples are Buddhist. A long time ago in Japan, Shinto and Buddhism were syncretized, but they are now separated. However, there was a time when they were together, so concepts from both religions have been fused into both. That's why Japanese Buddhism is a little different from Buddhism in other countries. Explaining it in detail is more difficult, but basically it's something like this.

I’m going to Tokyo in May, do you think you could post a video listing best things to do and things that aren’t worth the hype? I love your videos ❤️🤍❤️

Yay! That sounds amazing-you're going to love Tokyo! Our upload schedule is pretty packed, so we won’t be able to fit a dedicated video on this. However, we’ll definitely be sharing lots of insights on what’s worth the hype (and what isn’t) over the next few weeks on Instagram and our blog. Keep an eye out! Glad we found your channel! We spend our travel time between Japan and US National parks. We enjoyed this video about Tokyo, and we were just at the Mega Don Quijote 3 months ago! What has been your favorite part of Japan so far?

3:51 Just a little fyi :) The top step entering the shrine are not to be stepped on as you can observed from the lady and a bow before entering. Only high officials are allowed. Also, enter from the side and not the middle.

When did you go? What was the weather like? We are going in 2 weeks from California - trying to figure out how many jacket layers we need. 😂

The temperature varies depending on where you visit in Japan. In Tokyo alone, the maximum temperature in mid-February is 9-14°C. The minimum temperature is 3-4°C, and it gradually rises after that. However, Japan is long from north to south, so if you go to the north, it's cold enough to go skiing even in April. Conversely, in Okinawa in the south, the maximum temperature is 17°C, and the minimum is also quite high. Also, Japan has places at high altitudes, so depending on where you go, the temperature can differ by 7-10°C.

We were here December 11-28! VERY COLD (by California standards), especially since we were outside all the time. Bring layers and gloves! But if you don’t, you can buy those things at Uniqlo. Their heat tech line is incredible.

It doesn't take long for the media to interview western visitors. The Shibuya Mega Donki can be more expensive than other stores because of its location, as described in the channel "What's New in Japan." Glad you are having a great time in Japan! Do you have a sense of where the tourists are coming from (i.e., which countries or regions)?

Is there a magikarp Easter egg in all of the videos for this series? Now I’m going to have to rewatch to verify.

Sadly Tokyo is losing its identity and serenity especially post covid in places like Shibuya Crossing, Sensoji Temple, Ginza Street & Otome Sando are just packed with loud talking photo taking tourists.
