September 16, 2016 - Calgary, Alberta
Our beloved Mom, Mormor and Oldemor Tove Johanne Poulsen passed away peacefully at age 88 surrounded by family on Sept. 16th, 2016.
An adventurous spirit, Tove was born March 3rd 1928 in Detroit, U.S.A, raised in Denmark where she married Jens on October 3rd 1948, and eventually immigrated to Canada in 1956. Tove celebrated the holidays by weaving Danish traditions into everything especially her baking of brunkager (cookies), almond cakes and weinerbrod (strudel). She loved hosting people at her home, a place where everyone was welcome and well fed with her vast dinner table set for laughter and celebration. Tove’s frikadeller (meatballs), roedkaal (red cabbage) and parsley gravy on Jens’ new potatoes are legendary. In serving others, Tove shared her great love for Jesus and was a faithful member of Foothills Lutheran Church. She greatly enjoyed her time in the choir singing joyful hymns and being a part of Silver Saints, LWML and Christian Women’s Club. In the past few years, Tove struggled with Alzheimer’s but she remained content and peaceful and was well cared for by the amazing staff at the Bow Crest Care Centre.
Throughout her life Tove was a source of strength and beauty to those around her and she loved her family dearly including her husband Jens Otto Poulsen, her four children - Anni (Brad), John (Betty), Marian and Lillian (Chris), her eight grandchildren Leah (Patrick), Grayson (Cayley), Jason (Jennifer), Katherine (Keith), Madelaine, Devin, Oliver and Oslind and her three great-grandchildren Kai, Maya Tove and Machlan.
Funeral Services will be held at Foothills Lutheran Church (3104 - 34th Avenue N.W.) on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Thank you to all who have loved and supported Tove and our family. Our Danish angel watches over us from the glorious flowers and gardens of her Saviour Christ Jesus.
