Have you tried just waiting for 15 seconds after the airport finishes loading before trying the voice recognition? The sound that is made when you press the left-shift key is made by the game not the speech recognition engine, so you can not use that to determine if the recog engine is ready yet. On older computers the recog engine can take a couple of minutes before it is ready to be used. You can see this at the start of my 2 old KLAX videos where I have to wait for a couple of minutes before the recog engine finishes initialising. 😀

I've waited hours. 😂 I've tried everything.... Also when doing multiplayer. It works perfectly without doing this trick if I'm in tower position and not the host. Pretty weird

Definately weird. All the speech recognition is handled by the Microsoft Speech Recognition Engine, so changing the output probably makes it reset its input/output. If I plug my headphones in after starting the game, the microphone will switch over but the speakers don't. 🙂

Why on earth does this work?!? Anyway, it works, I’m over the moon! Oh, but now I only get the voice through the headset, and not the in game noises! I mean…it’s better than no voice control, but it’s not quite the fix I’m looking for

Glad it worked for you. The game requires a lot of 'fixes' in almost every aspect. Hopefully they do a better job with the new ATC game they are currently developing.
