Very nice video of Lviv. My grandparents emigrated from Lviv to Buenos Aires, in 1909. By then, it was part of the Austro Hungarian Empire. They spoke Ukrainian, German and Yiddish. You can find similar places in Israel. They block where I live has a soviet look to it. Actually, both of my neighbors are from Ukraine.

Those tower blocks are probably the most old fashioned buildings ever. Even the lifts are vintage with bullet holes.

There are some good ex Soviet buildings in Georgia. Especially in the isani area of tblisi. My grandparents live in a flat there and I remember they had some great ex Soviet lifts in the building. Idk if they are still there because I heard the floor was damaged on one of them.

Would have been quite clean and smart during the Soviet years. Public housing suffered badly after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

1:15 at least if you ever get stuck in a Soviet lift it’s probably easy to smash your way out of the lift car or break through the roof and climb out and open the doors onto the landing. The lift cars don’t seem very strong.

Soviet Mark 2? Also, towards the end of its existence they seemingly used KONE more often. Why are mods and repairs rare?
@lbsiuk2 жыл бұрын
Because there's not much money. It's cheaper to just 'keep it working' than to replace the lift.

@benolifts2 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen Kone used much in Soviet countries. After the collapse of the soviet union and Soviet lifts stopped being produced, most ex Soviet counties moved to Otis for the 90s. In the early 2000s this switched to Schindler Smart for a couple of years until production stopped (I am not sue if Ukraine moved to Schindler Smart, but other ex Soviet counties did). After this the lift contracts were moved to the nastiest cheapest companies that could be found that installed rubbish from China and sometimes Italy, and sometimes iMem from France. In other words the generic lifts so bad that they make Dewhurst look like luxury. These have been installed from the 2000s to the present day.
