Ekr1 ("Tarpan") intercity electric train of dual 25kV AC and 3kV DC stream systems (as Ukraine has both systems), max speed is 200 km/h (in Ukraine it is allowed 160km/h). Those trains were built in 2010 in Kriukiv train carriage building plant (KVBZ), Kremenchuk city, Ukraine. It has Siemens asynchronic electric motors and power electronics, Bremse breaks, PESA interrier components. The rest is predominantly made in Ukraine.

Wow! Actually, I went to Odesa for two days from Kyiv and back in the year 2003. But it was on one of these more regular blue "platzkartny" wagons, so these were much slower overnight trips. Yet I have to say - I do prefer it that "old" way, when you actually have more "feel through" the journey, rather than sitting in a chair for 7 hours. You know, this experience of spending this evening in a "semi-detached" compartments, meeting people, having these "endless train conversations" while sipping on some tea from these metal-and-glass train glasses and watching the scenery flow by. Or some longer stops, including shunting work done by the railway.. But it might be just me, I know. Yet in the end, nothing is more important than all of us making all necessary effort to make sure that Ukraine stands its ground, dignity and sovereignty, and bringing all the russian war criminals to justice! Слава Украïнi! Героям слава!

My first wife was Ukrainian. Really hard-working people. And friendly, like you mentioned. Thanks for sharing this pre-invasion view. One thing concerning seat reviews. I've never heard you or any of the other train/rail enthusiasts mention the heating shield on the floor below the window. Do they exist on the train being reviewed? The Nouvelle Aquitaine TER trains between my home in Arcachon and Bordeaux have the same setup as the train in this video. I find them REALLY inconvenient and uncomfortable. They encroach on the width of the foot space. I always take an aisle seat when available for that reason. I would like to see their impact mentioned in future videos. For a given type of carriage, do they get in the way or not? That would be helpful when making seat reservations in the future. Merci d'avance !

At 14:05 as I see, the prices aren't cheap if compared with a "regular" restaurant. A "Lunch box" for 140 and "Fresh Sandwich" for 80 is of course maybe half, what it would be on German ICE - but sadly I miss the old-style dining cars where the real food was cooked. But even in UA these full-service dining cars are thing of the past. Than, for such a long trip I would prefer to have an old-style open-berth car. These aren't bad and there is a huge boiler with hot water (and you can buy tea for conductor). Interesting thing: the tea in sleeping cars is served in special glasses + special glass holders. This applies to all three east-slavonic countries. "BY" being probably the most strict, but even there it is 100% OK to ask the conductor politely that you intent to "break" the glass and the holder and compensate the railway for the loss. So you pay an official bill for what that glass + holder (called "podstakannik") costs to the railway and are allowed to keep it for yourself. Since many tourists (and even locals!) doing that, the new trend is to sell these officially. It never hurts to ask. The "problem" with the daytime trains all over these countries is that there is no glass anymore, only paper / plastic cup. Update: I just noticed that (14:05) a "Roshen" candy bar is "of course" well under $1 (20 HR to be precise). Well, well... ;-) You know, why I am saying that, don't you? Some sarcasm and politics aside: we are actually fans of some Roshen things. But unsure, their candy bar is the most healthy food in that kitchen.

Hey dude! Nice video! I'm in Ukraine right now been traveling around by train. Question for ya... Is there a way that you can pick a forward facing seat by looking at the seating maps when you buy your ticket? I keep getting the BACKWARDS facing seats no matter what I try LOL. DRIVES ME NUTS! Slava Ukraini!
@NonstopEurotrip Жыл бұрын
Not possible I'm afraid as they don't guarantee which way around the train will be. Stay safe bro ✌🏻🇺🇦

Thanks for your video mate. We, folks from Kyiv, really enjoyed this one, especially your thoughts on Tarpan, a very nice trainset. They actually do run nowadays, ive seen one of those a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, they Kyiv-Odesa route is now served only by overnight sleeper trains. Speaking of prices, the Intercity ones were pretty much high at the time for a... lets say, regular commuter, that is why actual prices are just slightly higher. The sleeper trains, though, seen some significant price surges, especially the ones which are served by ac-equipped, refurbished coaches. Nevertheless, you are more than welcome to visit anytime - we know it may sound terrifying, the idea of coming to Ukraine now, its just that we got so used to it.. that we dont care anymore and travel using our reliable trains ;)

Visited Kyiv a long time ago. Beautiful city. Also the only one of six Soviet cities that had decent food.
@GeorgeGy Жыл бұрын
So far nearly every (ex) Soviet city I visited had decent food. But I am at very unfair advantage: I have no idea how to be there as a foreign tourist. Probably a very hard ordeal (and I am not joking).

@@NonstopEurotrip It's very good indeed, but one has to be careful: sometimes that, too, can be greasy. And if not, it tends to be more expensive than the Ukrainian or Russian fare. For me Central Asian food can be greasy, too.

11:02 panel that left unmentioned is clearly because you ain't understand what does that all means. Bell button is a call for train attendant. And on the right is volume for inner radio system. Actually, every ukranian long-distance train has the inner radio system but you can sometimes see them used as announcement system in newer trains. As radio they don't work for a while

It seems like a good train, but why it goes so slow? 655 km is 7h 45m of the trip.

Average speed out here
@TheOlgaSasha Жыл бұрын
The train goes on the common track max 140 km/h. But the line has huge freight traffic, so even with 2 tracks it is hard to move faster. The lines from Kyiv to Lviv and from Kyiv to Kharkiv are 160-170 km/h. It is planned to build a new Kyiv-Odesa passenger line with 300 km/h. But only Chinese investors were interesred before war...

Appreciate you to give people a chance to explore this beautiful country. And as a Chinese, I can prove the current situation is just like you said, people in Russia, China and other few countries are not allowed to express our attitudes in public. But I will still say it, I and most of our people don't support Putin's illegal war, and we hold the same attitudes to these dictators like you.
