Tower Bridge was painted chocolate brown until the Queen’s silver jubilee in 1977. They painted the bridge red white and blue and is still those colours. The interior of the bridge is still painted chocolate brown to this day. It’s also had big clean as well over the last 45 years and a decent museum and viewing platform at the top where Grundy walks. Some one tell him Sherlock Holmes didn’t exist.....!

I hardly recognised tower bridge as it was still covered in 75 years of sooty grime . Watching old films it seemed that most of londons historic buildings were that colour till they were cleaned in the 70s and 80s .

Great broadcaster from a different time ,his son was very good too ,watching Bill on today programme from thames Euston road studios, we still could dream then and be ourselves .
