Not only is it untrue that the American tycoon "bought the wrong bridge", but he actively encouraged the untrue legend because he found it was increasing tourism around the bridge in its new place.

Why did you randomly reply in Russian? Clearly you understood the comment you were replying to, as the Google Translation of your comment shows you were answering it. You also didn't bring up a topic of particular interest to Russian-speaking peoples, or one particularly taboo to English-speaking peoples. Do you simply enjoy not being understood by the majority of this channel's predominently English-speaking audience?

I'm Romanian, so not a native English speaker, and have never been to the UK. When I was in kindergarten and we'd sing "London Bridge Is Falling Down", I'd get really sad. I didn't want the bridge to fall, and no matter if we'd build it up with iron bars or needles and pins, nothing we'd do would work because it'd keep falling. It made very sad and worried for londoners. Didn't know back then that they had so many bridges. Made me worried for nothing. Damn londoners!

I worked round the corner from London Bridge in 1972 and 1973 and passed it every day - I watched as they removed and loaded each stone, carefully marked with numbers and letters, onto massive lorries to take away, probably to Tilbury, to be shipped abroad. I knew it had been sold as there was talk of it in Lloyd's (insurance) who would have covered this precious cargo, I presume. The fact that London Bridge was closed to traffic (obviously) caused considerable disruption and most traffic went over Tower Bridge but was extremely congested.

7:26-8:02 the distance from London to Paris is 344 km, and Jay crossed it with his arm in 26 seconds. That means his arm travels at 344*3600/26 km/h ≈ 47,631 km/h, or 13,231 m/s. That’s 39 times as fast as the speed of sound. Jay’s arm is therefore the fastest manmade object on earth right now. Edit: I’m tired of people saying “what about the manhole cover” or other things that went faster, because those are all not on earth.

My 15-greats-grandfather, John Stockton, was one of 12 Aldermen who defended London Bridge in 1470 against Falconbridge, the bastard son of the Duke of Kent. It was part of the Wars of the Roses. Several years ago, myself and a group of colleagues walked along the Thames Path From Hampton Court to Erith. At the start we walked along the path and soon came to Kingston. As we were raising money for a charity associated with our company (a widely known Peri-Peri Chicken restaurant that rhymes with Mandos) i thought it might be a good idea to pay a visit to any restaurant on (or near) the route. Kingston restaurant was only a few minutes walk away so we decided to go and say hi. On the way we crossed the Hogsmill River over the Clattern Bridge. I did little research and discovered that the Clattern Bridge is purportedly the oldest bridge in London (built around 1175) and one of the oldest river crossings in the world. It is a fine bridge, still going strong after many, many, many, many, many years.

I live about an hour away from the London Bridge in Arizona, it blew my mind as a child when I learned where it was from. Couldn't fathom how you'd go about mailing a bridge.

It was taken down and numbered piece by piece, the packed up with a plan of how to reconstruct it, then shipped to Arizona. It's the 1831 bridge.

Wow, the video editing finesse has increased a lot on this channel. As have the costumes, attention to detail and all round production quality. (The humour was always top-notch.) Also the animations are exceptionally Flying Circus-esque, despite (presumably) not being made with actual paper cutouts. Well done!

No other bridge till 1750, that is unbelievable.Just in time for the 1800 rush hour. Would have loved to live on the old bridge, I know there would have been the odd plague or two and maybe a fire but still there's something about it.Love the Werther's Original Surfshark add.

The 1831 bridge is 157 miles by road from my front door, and I've been there a few times. Like many Arizona residents, it seems to be enjoying its retirement in the sun. The mild dry climate and minimal traffic means it'll probably last just about forever.

mild dry climate? you're talking about Lake Havasu City, one of the few places on Earth where you can go to see what it's like to Fry in Hell before you die. it's a wonder that bridge hasn't been heat fused into glass by now it gets so hot in LHC in the Summers. LOL

It would have been interesting if you had mentioned the affects the old bridge had on the tides. The starlings on the bottom restricted the river so much that there could be a two meter water level difference on one side of the bridge from the other, which made it extremely treacherous to pass under and also caused the river to freeze during harsh winters.
@pk3ndl3r
@pk3ndl3r 2 жыл бұрын
I did originally write that into the script. The reason we ditched it is because it didn't really add the story of the bridge so without any jokes or really good imagery to make it stand out, it felt like it just slowed the video down.
