I’m no expert but if the cranes cabin is so insecure that the ambient breeze at altitude causes it to move, then I would not be trusting it with my live

As a crane operator I can tell you that absolutely yes, the wind moves the whole mast. When you consider in free slew the wind can spin the jib completely 360° through the night. Even just picking up or landing a heavy load the whole thing can move and jerk. It’s perfectly safe and supposed to do so. Deflection etc are all parts of the engineering. If there was no give, it would be less safe. Love my job 💪

Maybe someone can explain what the numbers showing on the meter represent? Is it something you would look at to show the way? Balance? Is it used to center the load?
@towercranebyLJ Жыл бұрын
The first top number shows you the radius: which is the distance from the hook to the center of the slew ring. Second number show the weight on the hooks. Third one shows the hook height. Fourth one shows the angle of the slew(not working). Last one shows the wind speed.

@@towercranebyLJ Thank you very much. The only crane I ever worked on was on the back of a truck when I used to set tombstone’s for a family business. You can use all of those numbers in calculating the maximum load which constantly changes depending on those numbers you mentioned. I’m surprised they don’t have another gauge which uses those calculations to give you the maximum load allowable since it already has the numbers needed. If you know what I mean and I’m pretty sure you do. The angle of the crane to the tower which is the radius, the distance from the tower, and the links I’m not sure about. How far down the load is if that has a bearing on the maximum. I do remember with the little hand crane, I was constantly trying to move the load closer And raising the boom and bringing it in so I didn’t overload. This is the same principle but on a much grander scale

As far as I know, no. When you test for it you’ll go to a test center for the written, and more than likely where you do your schooling they’ll have a Procter there for the practical. But if you’re going to drive to a job site with a crane, you need one.
