Just before ladder 17 pulls out, notice how gorgeous the new engine 7 looks. Does anyone agree?

Fantastic news. Boston has repaired this truck and returned it to service. Also Engine 7's New 2012 KME Pumper will be delivered next wee.

I agree, blue lights are pretty bright in the night and easy to see in the day than the red light. Because not to be confused with other cars backlights.

Nice! I just saw ladder 17 yesterday responding to a call near my office on Boylston St.

@RinzlerH Massachusetts vehicles using warning lights have historically used blue facing the back, including tow trucks and other non-emergency vehicles. Studies for the NTSB and FEMA in 2008 have shown that blue is the most conspicuous color.

@RinzlerH I like the mixture of both red and blue. i think it looks awsome

I'm not hating on blue lights. I like them too. It will just be hard getting used to them since I am so used to seeing red lights. Looking forward to seeing more blue lights on fire apparatus.

@ScarletandGrey4ever Columbus Fire Engine 7 has an E-One that they got as a demo, & it's been a POS since Day #1. Res17Cue also has an E-One, and it's a POS too. They have 2 Pierce engines that are great! Most of our engines are either Ferrara or Sutphen.

tower ladder 17 got replaced with a KME rear mount aerial. The new truck is similar to several Boston aerials.

@PoliceAmbulanceFire the lightbar in front is all strobes, not LEDs. All the flat-mount lights are LEDs though.

I have sad news for the people who like this truck. Ladder 17 while at a box last month had a major Hydraulic failure and is permanently out of service waiting for a replacement.

@bg1379 The 2008 University of Michigan Transportation Institute's study did not examine fire engine color. Search for and download (and read) "Effects of warning lamp color and intensity of driver vision."

Engine 7 is getting a new 2012 KME next month along with Engine 52 & Engine 53.

@landrover4444 I think it would be interesting if they also included green lights in the study though...

@landrover444413 жыл бұрын
@bg1379 That is incorrect. You will need to read the extensive study of 2008 done by The University of Michigan Transport Research Institute commissioned by FEMA and DHS. The results of this study show that BLUE is the most conspicuous color in either DAY or NIGHT and by any age group. Which studies were you referring to by the way?
@cwjones032211 жыл бұрын
Blue lights stand out better at night, but reds are better during the day. So a combination of both is better than either separate. If I had to choose though, I'd go with red.

Did Boston FD implement the rear facing blue lights before or after the FDNY did?
@HolyMarkMcGrath12 жыл бұрын
Oh, that's sad. What box were they at?
@HolyMarkMcGrath12 жыл бұрын
Oh, thanks for the confirmation. It gets really confusing when there are so many different types of fire truck manufacturers. I thought E-7 was a KME. So, that was my bad. Sorry.

Read my post again. I tell you that I was using the study of the following year from FEMA and the USFA that went much more in-depth and dealt with the concept of visibility of emergency vehicles in its entirety (Don't you want to know about EVERY aspect of visibility and how they work together? You need the full picture.). FA-323
@04smallmj13 жыл бұрын
@23aztek Red lights also blend in with other things on the road like car lights and traffic lights. Blue is best because nothing else on the road uses blue lights apart from emergency vehicles :D
@bg137913 жыл бұрын
@landrover4444 You are also leaving out another HUGE part of the FEMA study, RECOGNITION. The simple fact that most Americans won't instantly see blue as a fire engine or police car (especially in states like NY) will mean that they will NOT move with the same reaction time as they would normally--a major part of the FEMA study that also led to the conclusion that "red" fire engines may in fact be ideal.

@ScarletandGrey4ever If it makes you feel better that particular e-one was just refurbed, and by refurb I mean new lighting and a maaco quality paint job. Hahaha. But you also have to remember one of the Pierce straight sticks in Boston had a structural failure several years back, their opinion of Pierce was severely soured over the incident. The last Pierce delivered is the Quantum R1 has. They are buying more E-Ones and KMEs now.
@bg137913 жыл бұрын
@RinzlerH At night, there's no doubt. During the day, though, red lights have been proven by studies to be better. That's why all vehicles should have BOTH. Look at his Las Vegas truck one, too.
@redbull838212 жыл бұрын
does anyone know why they took Engine 7's 2010 KME and gave it to Engine 42?I know Engine 7 got the new 2012 one, but is there a special reason they gave E42 the 2010 truck.
@04smallmj13 жыл бұрын
@landrover4444 Ooh, thanks for the info :D
@bg137913 жыл бұрын
@landrover4444 You are correct, although you are leaving out a VERY important detail: The results ONLY apply to LEDs., because blue must be used at a much higher intensity than red for it to be viewed best. That is why blue is not the universal color in America for emergency vehicles; back in the day of all-halogen, red was superior. So, will they change the laws? NO. See NYS. They had to fight to get 1/2 blue in the back, and still don't have them 360* (although the reasoning is complex)
