If you're in London this is probably the most entertaining guided tour you can do. I've been on the Yeoman tour more times than I can count, and I've enjoyed it every time, yes even when I been shepherding my class of school kids. Well worth taking if you're visiting the Tower.

Thank you so much for this,it beats anything offered on tv these day. The Yeoman warder is a natural entertainer as well as been an excellent and informative guide...

I've been there a couple of weeks ago and had this very Warder as the tour guide. His tour was the best I ever got in a museum and the best part of my visit to London. I recently watched 'The Tudors' on tv and had to think about everything he told. If you ever come to London, visit the Tower. It is expensive, but the Yeoman Warders will make it worth every penny!

0321Sjoerd: The Tower of London is not a museum - it is a royal palace and a fortress.

They are properly known as Yeoman Warders, Constables of the Tower and during my time in MoD whilst working for the office of the Provost Marshal (Army) (Chief Constable of the Military Police) in the mid 80's I used to issue new Yeoman Warders with their Warrant Cards, which I assume they still carry today! Great guys and most had a wicked sense of humour.....(ex Military, says it all)

I didn't mean to imply negatively when I used the word ignorant. Most are oblivious to the fact that the the guards are real life soldiers, and that they are on public duties a few months at a time in-between doing whatever operational soldiers do. All I want is for people to show them the respect they deserve. If that makes me a pompous know-it-all then so be it.

What's so great about this Beefeater, is that he tells the tourists a little about the guards at the Tower of London. I hope that this will be a necessary part of the tour if it isn't already. Because many perceive the guards to be a show-pieces and 'actors' to attract tourists. It really grinds my gears when I come across videos of ignorant tourists disturbing the guards like mimicking them or touching them. *salute*

@emptyangel Well put .... my grandfather was also a beefeater and they are given a basic script ( dates and names etc) but they are then left alone to bring the history to life and tell it how they see it. If they made it like a school lesson it would be boring.

That American woman saying he's still single in the background, no sense of humour, they don't understand the British sense of humour at all.
@Janey65118 жыл бұрын
No, I'm English and that doesn't sound like an English accent to me, its the way she pronounces 'He's' at the beginning, definately American or maybe Canadian.
@Janey65118 жыл бұрын
Nope its not English, its definitely American or Canadian. I'm not getting into an argument with you about it, you have your opinion and I have mine and its definitely not an English accent.

We look forward to the new Monarchy coming in to power! G-D save the King! Long live the King! It is a GREAT HONOUR to serve{even under the mental health ACT 1983}
@Eleglas11 жыл бұрын
Not really. There's a historical reason to it. The Yeoman Warders were once paid by the King in beef which was a great delicacy at the time and very expensive and the name Beefeater was born soon after.
@MissLizaMay6 жыл бұрын
well that's a common theory. The truth is nobody's quite certain. Bill said himself that they aren't sure.
