It astounds me every time I see such entitled attitudes of people. No one likes to pay for registration and tags but if you want transportation, that’s what you pay for as an adult. I've dealt with the public for 40 years and had my share of craziness and kept my temper in check, but what you deal with is a whole different level. People like that owner really pisses me off because you know they know that they are in the wrong. And that guy pretty much bullies his way with everyone.

I've followed you almost from the beginning, and I see a pattern. Property managers will sticker a car, have you come to tow it, and then back down when confronted by the vehicle owner. They don't want to deal with the drama, but they don't mind throwing you to the wolves. You have very good control of your temper, even when pushed to the edge. I guess I wouldn't last real long in that job. I'm respectul to others and I want respect from them. Anything less is unacceptable. Good job, Johnny!!!

I have to agree. I also get a bit peeved when property management tags vehicles for towing, then either forgets to remove them from the list or outright caves in to residents that do not follow the terms of the lease. Rental properties are a business and so is non-consensual towing. I believe it is disrespectful to call for a tow knowing if there is a disagreement, you will cancel the tow wasting time and money of the tow company; but mistakes are made and this can be expected, but it should be a very rare occurrence.

Wouldn't it be eaasier for the BMW dude to just pay his registration fees and avoid the problem altogether? Good on you for handling the situation in your usual manner, Johnny, polite and respectful. Our Australian police vehicles have number plate recognition cameras and when they spot your car's rego has expired, you are toast. In my state the fines are, $704 for being unregistered PLUS another $704 for being uninsured.

He said he just bought it. Generally, existing insurance will cover a newly purchased vehicle for 30 days in the US, so it can be insured without being registered. Registration can be catch-22, as depending on the state, the seller or buyer may keep position of the registration. In Texas, the buyer gets the rest of the registration. In Illinois, the seller keeps the registration and can transfer the plates. In both states, the title and registration need to be updated with the state.

Johnny, this brings back memories! It’s also why back in my days when we had multiple vehicles to get at a given location.. we went in team fashion. We had a custom automated Snag truck (tow driver didn’t get out of tow truck) who pulled up, snagged the vehicle after the spotter verified car ID, and the snag truck drove +/- a block or two away. He’d drop that vehicle where I’d be waiting with the flatbed. I’d quickly load that while he would run back over and Snag Truck another. Repeat. Now I have 2 vehicles and I’m off to the yard. My coworker with the second flatbed would take my place. Once he had his flatbed loaded and was ready to go the Snag truck ran back to Snag a vehicle for himself, drive a couple blocks away, stop and strap, the spotter and all would be outta there in extremely fast fashion with 5 vehicles heading to the yard. It was very rare that we ever had a customer interaction. It sounds like it’s wrong to do or something ain’t right about it I know, but everything was legal. I’m not sure about current laws in your state, but we charged a tow-away fee plus a daily storage fee starting the minute the vehicle was in our yard. It’s crazy, we had 3 different storage yards for vehicles total of about +/- 55 acres of vehicles. Rows and rows and rows of vehicles! The “Old Man” who was the owner of the company was a grumpy quiet old man. He was a Veteran. So that’s where he taught us the Team way on big tow jobs. I know you got some crazy stories too Johnny. It’s impossible to be in the tow industry and not have some crazy things go on. I’ve never seen you do a Repo. Those can get dangerous in a heartbeat! Anyway, stay safe brother and see you on the flip side 10-4.

In Georgia most counties get a very large percentage, often a majority, of their taxes from car related taxes. So that's why they're if this dude has an out of state or unregistered car, that's $600 to $1000+ of taxes not being paid.
