After all these years it finally clicks to why Junkyard's tail is so mangled. That flea has been living in his belt and dining on his tail with a fork and knife! That's great story telling through accessories! Awesome review!

Excellent! This is exactly why the concept and sculpting team at Varner Studios had the best figures.

By amalgamating the animated aesthetic with that of the original toy rather than just taking cues from the vintage figure, they've lost some of the grossness that I was hoping would be the focus of these ultimates. Playmates sculpts give me pure nostalgia feels like nothing else and the closer that S7 stays to them the better. Not painting the main weapon is a massive misstep though, but I'm still looking forward to my preorder arriving. I'm hoping for a Nozone and Headbanger next.

Agreed! That classic gross factor was what appealed to me as a kid, and it's missing from these releases. Psycho is one that would suffer greatly from this softened style. He surely won't be blubbery or slimy looking.

The way you feel about these is how I feel about real Ghostbusters and earthworm jim figures

Both great toylines. I had a bunch of Ghostbusters as a kid, and watched the toon religiously. Are you getting the new Earthworm Jim figures from Premium DNA?

My vintage Junkyard has the green speckle paint on him. I wonder if there were two versions.
@ursupremetoys6230 Жыл бұрын
Well, it was the early 90s. Consistency wasn't always a priority when producing toys. It's interesting that both my loose and carded samples don't have the speckles. But a quick image search seems to show him with and without them! Cool to know.

There were two paint variations.

@@ursupremetoys6230 all the original figures had bright paint speckled on randomly. Mostly green and purple, but some got almost none so it's easily missed. On my vintage Junkyard its green spots on the feet.

Do they keep their Ultimates in the shipper boxes in store? I know Best Buy has been carrying some of them and they don't have the shippers or the slip covers.

Great review. Junkyard was my favourite toxic avenger, must be my love for werewolves. Ah S7….. It was a lazy effort not putting deco on the weapons. they have done it with TMNT, so why not this? The weapons were where playmates kept cost down and S7 could have improved. I’ll give credit where it’s due, those knee joints are impressively hidden at the front, where it matters. What is weird to me is that S7 seem to have reversed the peg and hole on the belt… am i wrong? If this is meant to be an improvement on the vintage figure, good work, weapons are a let down.
@ursupremetoys6230 Жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. They definitely needed a painted set of weapons as well. I love the vintage style weapons, but I would have liked to finally see a fully painted gun. And yes the peg was facing out on the vintage belt. I always thought it was hidden well on the original.
