Omg. I’m so sick of hearing about what we should all change about ourselves to make ourselves more desirable. Please remember that your soulmate (if you believe in them) will love you for who you are and what you naturally have to offer, flaws included. There are too many relationships out there where a square is trying to fit into a triangle. Don’t force anything that should not be. We should all work to be the best versions of ourselves, FOR OURSELVES, and nobody else. There should be no ‘I’m being this version of me for X person’. Who you are is what attracts your partner, and if you end up with somebody where you feel the need to behave a certain way in order to keep them around, that’s not healthy. Be your best you, for you, and keep working at that for yourself. Your partner will love and admire that about you, not push you down or behave negatively towards any mistakes or flaws you may have. Flaws are human, nobody is perfect, and it’s ridiculous to think we should be modifying our behaviour for the purpose of finding a mate. Of course, change unhealthy traits you may have, but once again, do that for your own success! That’s all I have to say. Thx for coming to my random KZbin comment rant.

There were definitely a couple moments where they were conflating sex and gender, which makes it a tad offensive when they describe the ''masculine'' as more logical. It wouldn't be as bad if they didn't allude or flat out mention that certain traits are innate for men and women and kept it in a more spiritual realm, but they didn't. Imagine them actually reading into what femininity truly entails, how women are socialized into it and how it affects them. Don't think they are ready for that revelation yet.

@@Mellovesdeep25 to your point about Olivia -we all can hold toxic traits, and a good friend will point it out to their friend and do their best to help the other person recognize that, if they aren't self aware to realize that on their own. & that was the topic it didn't just come out of nowhere. I appreciate being called out for toxic behaviour for the benefit of my personal development. I think it was good of Lana to help Olivia see that too for her own personal development, as any good friend would. as for your first point, I see how what Lana said came across rude, however, I don't believe that was how she intended it to sound. when you're in the moment and feel like your worth is being devalued (especially since this is being broadcasted to the internet ((hella embarrassing)) you try to protect yourself and say the first thing that comes to mind to steer the conversation off that. nothing wrong with Lana recognizing her own value and stating she would never be blown off. but the reality is, however beautiful or not you are, there are of course people out there who have been blown off, so she is catering to the wide variety of audience members who face that.
@Mellovesdeep253 жыл бұрын
@@haileym576 I never said her point about Olivia was wrong, just the way she spoke to her. Knowing your value and stating you would NEVER be blown off in a snooty way are two totally different things. You can put a pretty bow on it all you want, my opinion is that she was not very nice this episode. Doesn’t mean she is horrible or always nasty but she was this day. You can twist anything anyone says, I know a girl who makes people cry all the time because she tells people really mean-spirited and degrading things and then when she goes too far and someone is upset she spins it to her wanting to help them or them taking it wrong. It’s way more becoming to be accountable for your words and how they can be taken rather than make excuses.

I take this comment back and I was being just as ugly on the inside by even making this statement. We all have insecurities and today she was just having a bad day or maybe its me having a bad day and taking her comments the wrong way. Either way I still love and I should have worded this different instead of attacking her character. She is very beautiful and successful and everyone has days where were more snappy with our words. So I should have handled this way different.

It's evident that her insecurities are pushing them away... You are better than this.

Hey Lana! Just wanted to clarify some topics that were discussed throughout this podcast that I find a bit harmful. I am a Gender Studies educator, so I do have quite a bit of background in this conversation. Toxic masculinity refers to masculine traits that cause harm to not only men but also women and society as a whole. Toxic masculinity could also assume that all men are straight and cisgender, and suggests this is the way they SHOULD be, which of course we know is not true. Also, you could say that toxic masculinity comes from trauma, but if a bit more research was done on the topic, toxic masculinity stems from society and the traditional stereotypical norms of masculinity and manhood. Toxic masculinity can turn into violent behavior that results when a man’s idea of “what it means to be a man” goes wrong. But there is no female equivalent to this. Toxic femininity does not exist. In any system that promotes the concept of a superior and an inferior, the group that is perceived as inferior will attempt to curry favor or avoid rejection from those perceived as superior. It’s not rocket science. Being an asshole isn’t a gendered trait. But being an asshole, or being manipulative, or being self-centered is not the same as toxic masculinity. Toxic masculinity refers to a specific type of man-on-woman violent behavior and it’s a serious problem.

@@lilyg8142 What I'm saying is, you only get to see a fraction of other people's lives. Even knowing how they do or do not behave doesn't really change that - there is minimum one thing that will always be private yet is the most fundamental part of their character, i.e. thoughts, experiences and emotions. I obviously do have an impression from Amara. But I would refrain from calling that a complete picture - calling it objective would be even more egregious.

Ok, first of all, you can’t just always adjust your “femenine or masculine energy” in order to please someone or to reinvent yourself to connect for that person. Also, I’m not “unbalanced” for leaning more in one side than the other. Separating everything with “feminine or masculine traits” is honestly a toxic trend, because perpetuates symbolic violence, by saying for example, “men are more rational than women, so go do x” or “Women are more emotional, so go do y”. That’s a thing we made up in the 1900, a stupid social construct, so “we know our place society and our role in a heterosexual relationship” If you want to find out how a partner really is, you have to watch how they are with their family, friends, you (especially in bad moments, so you see true reactions and what they do about it), communicate, both understand your affective responsibility, work on yourself through therapy on your toxic behaviors and hopefully the other person too, decide everyday to love each other and work through it!

For some reason Amara chooses horrible men. Men that she knows right from the start will NOT create the future she wants.. but she tries anyway.. then she tries to change them and make them into someone they're not. I wish I could speak to her and tell her it's all about who you allow into your life. It's not about trying to make dysfunctional men into healthy functional relationships. It will never work with commitment-phobic drug addicts who are broken.

I don’t think some ppl understand that the term “toxic masculinity” isn’t trying to say masculinity is toxic as a whole. To suppress your own emotions to the point of emotional unavailability for example is toxic, or being prideful to the point that your ego can’t handle admitting your own faults, also toxic 🤷♀️

To the last point of this show... I believe that's excactly what it's about. My most successful relationships were about equal improvement for both partners. I admired and strived to develop certain traits that my partner was exceptional at while they did the same for some of mine. We were rarely equal in our strenghts but very relatable personally.
