I like how Barry’s psychological decline is reflected in his appearance. Season 1 Barry is clean-shaven, neatly dressed, buff, good posture, looks like an recent ex-marine. By Season 3 he’s a wreck: he looks way older, bloodshot eyes, scruffy beard, doesn’t care what he wears, carries himself like there’s a weight on his shoulders. I think part of it might be Hader’s response to how “hot” everyone thought he was as Barry in S1 - that’s not what he expected or wanted.

It’s the ideals and expectations pushed on boys by society, including being aggressive, being angry, being expected to not show emotion or cry or they’re weak, be ultra masculine, etc
@Huddy524 жыл бұрын
@Fidelity "real niggas never shed tears" is indeed a trope pushed on boys by society. Other societies place a high value on emotional openness. It takes a narrow and dim view of the world to still accept all this shit as the "natural order". Its like saying it's natural for boys to be into video games. Half the shit you call masculine is the result of a coin flip decision by ad agencies.

@Raa16 actually yes. Video game appeal to dudes cause of marketing isnt a debate topic it's just a fact. I majored in Computer Game Science this was among the subjects we discussed. After the game crash of 83 marketers decided to laser focus on a specific demographic. Before that in the 70s and early 80s litterally no one would agree with the sentiment that video games are biologically attuned to men.
